Dudes, do you have any recommendation for a case/cover for the Kindle Fire?
I'll have to check what case I got for my wife, but it's pretty nice. Fake leather, plastic holds it to the back while a flap covers the screen and a piece of elastic holds it shut. Folds open and can stand it up with it.

That would be sweet, thanks!
I'm not really keen on fake leather, but I refuse to pay, what, 60$ or something for a leather case - that stuff is for protection primarily, not for prestige, at least for me

I'm the same way. I never like to pay more than $20 for a case, or $10 for smaller cases. Seems ridiculous. I bought an expensive case once in my life, and it was for a PDA and it was a really, really nice case. I think it was $40. Now it seems you can even get nice cases for cheap, so you don't have to spend as much.
Kindle with color e-ink, just to spite me for buying an e-ink device.
I doubt it will be colour e-ink. But I would bet heavily on it being a version with front lighting, maybe a little smaller and lighter. And a few new fire models.
Oh I doubt it too, especially since Qualcomm gave up on the most successful version of the technology so far. It's probably a Kindle touch with lighting (if not all the kindles available with lighting) and a new Fire that compares to the Nexus 7.
I lost my last Kindle Touch. I really like it compared to my old Nook and the bulk of my books are now with Amazon. I'm going to absolutely need a new e-book before the end of this month. Meanwhile Amazon is being homps and not selling any. Are any other e-readers comparable to the Touch? I'm almost tempted to buy a basic Kindle or a Kindle Keyboard but I'm not sure.
So I think I might pick up the new Paperwhite Kindle between now and the end of the year.
So what's the deal with 3G? Something that's worthwhile having or should I pass on it?
It's basically a $60 convenience fee to never have to hook your kindle up to your PC and/or wireless network. Do you do all your reading at home and your house is setup for wifi? You'll probably never miss the 3G.
On the other hand, if you have no at-home wifi or are you constantly reading on the go? It is pretty awesome to never have to worry about how you'll get your next book onto the kindle.
Personally, I have an old Kindle2, so I got the 3G whether I wanted it or not, and I use it all the time. It's really handy to just be able to grab whatever book I want out of thin air, even if I'm in the middle of a road trip on some back country road.
Also I specifically opted for the Touch sans 3G just because it seemed unnecessary. I'll be away from internet for over a month and not come close to running out of books so I never saw any necessity. But I also load a whole bunch I've never read before at once.
I am so fucking excited for the Paperwhite, my Kindle Keyboard has cracks in the case at the bottom corners of the screen. That battery life with the light running is sexy.

Well, I've got a big camera purchase coming up along with the Wii U, so I think I'm gonna wait till Christmas or early next year to get a Kindle + Prime subscription.
The special offers thing is absolutely not invasive at all as well. It's the normal screen saver when you turn it off. Which means you don't even see it outside of closing and opening the case if even that.
Stuff like this but more personalized. And honestly I treat it like my personalized Amazon, which is Amazon suggesting things I may very well actually be interested in.
So the bad news is I was hoping to get mine this month but it looks like it won't ship til after October so ffffffffffff
Yeah, as someone with a special offers touch, I actually like it. So far, all special offers has done for me is become my screen saver and give me some free MP3s and Instant Videos. I'd buy the special offers version even if they were the same price.
I wish the special offers were actually "offers", lately there haven't actually been any. Just straight up advertisements. According to my mom, the offers were about 1000% better before last Xmas (when I got my Kindle). I used her code once to get $100 of my current TV.
So I finally got my Kindle 3 replaced with a Kindle 4 (it's screen was all messed up for some reason). I got the new one about a week before they announced the new Paperwhite. :rotate:
I'd see about returning mine and getting one of those instead but I'm really terrible about shipping stuff back on time so I think I'll just keep this until it's run it's course.

So, I have a nook simple touch(I think that's what it is called). Anyone know how to get rid of the sample books that it shipped with that I 100% do not want?

@Quid could you get a Kobo touch to tide you over? They're pretty nice.

The new Kobos look pretty great. I'm not even trying to hide my gadget lust, like I did when the Kobo Touch was announced. I'm almost certainly getting the Kobo Glo. As much as I got turned off Kobo devices by the 2.0 update for the Kobo Touch, my month-long ownership of a Nook STR made me love my Touch again (the Kobo devs fixing the 2.0 issues and generally being really responsive to feedback also helped).
I was wanting to compare the Glo and the Kindle Paperwhite in person (I sell Kindles at work), but Amazon won't be releasing it internationally till next year. Again. Probably due to supply issues, but... seriously, the US isn't the entire world, guys. Not even Canada is getting them till next year. So as long as the frontlighting is even on the Glo, I'm probably getting it next month.

So many thanks. I was going mad trying o do it from the nook itself. Being in Australia I had not logged in before as buying from b&n does not occur.

Any non-US and non-UK European Kindle owners that can vouch for the availability of public domain as well as purchasable e-books? I am thinking of buying my mother a Kindle Touch for Christmas from amazon.co.uk, but I want to make sure that it isn't crippled in any way if you live in Sweden. I am also unsure how problematic the lack of 3G would be - Sweden isn't laden with open Wi-FI hotspots because broadband fiber is so ubiquitous.
I'm in Sweden and have no problem using my second gen Kindle to buy stuff from Amazon over 3G. Not everything is available outside of the US, but it's getting better and better. Public domain books were unavailable when I first got it, but you can use Calibre to transfer those over without much hassle if they still aren't available.
Even if you have no wifi available, you can still transfer stuff over usb.
EDIT: Checking now, it seems like a bunch of public domain books were released for us non-Americans in May, so Calibre won't be needed.

Sounds good. Mom is primarily interested in all the public domain books, but she also enjoys some sci-fi and fantasy series.
How's the multi-device functionality? Is it as easy as intended to purchase titles on a PC and then access them on the Kindle by using your account and whatever? I have bad experiences with DRM and account syncing etc., although not when using a Kindle.
If I were to get my hands on a paperwhite in Canada can I just login with my current kindle account and read/buy books without issue?

You don't have a Kindle account do you? Unless they changed things, you have an Amazon account with a number of Kindles associated with it; adding one is no hassle and you can have the same book on multiple devices easily. My Kindle Keyboard and my iPad Kindle app are synchronised down to the page.

It's easy to buy on the PC and transfer the books over. Buy and download the book (make sure to select 'transfer via computer' I believe), plug in the USB cable, open the Kindle directory, then drag the book file into the documents folder. Takes only a second to download and a second to copy to the Kindle.
edit: it's also the only way I put books on my Kindle. I don't have the 3G and I never use wifi for anything, so I'm a huge fan of how easy it is to transfer via PC. I'm also glad it doesn't require some stupid bullshit app to sync everything like iTunes and iDevices.

Ya, I meant amazon account. So the paperwhite won't recognize my account being from Canada and stop me from using it?

Here it is at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006T9QD0M). It is the HHI Standup Case. Should include a stylus too.

This is what is rumored to be coming out, and I hope it's correct. I really want a front lit Kindle so I can drop my case light.

Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do when my kindle 2 dies. The free 3g, even though it's pretty slow, is pretty darn convenient

OK, sorry, I'm done now. We have just had a lot of really strange names for devices the past few years.
