I don't own a CCPro just yet. If the same bundle were chosen for release, I'd probably get it.
Nintendo really should just make every console red.

And y'know what? I liked Disaster: Day of Crisis. It's a collection of gimmicky minigames interspersed with competent rail shooter sequences and a ludicrous plot, which gives it the feel of an even stupider and hyper-condensed series of 24.
I've seriously wanted to play that since Day 1, even despite the things I've heard against it. What I've seen looks fine to me.
I do wish Nintendo would release that, along with some of the other stuff we've been missing. Man (or woman) cannot live by Zelda and Kirby alone. Not for 12-18 months, anyway.
It would be nice if Nintendo were to take a cue from Warner Bros. and maybe have an "on-demand" pressing of some games. Or just let guys like Atlus handle what they don't want to again, instead of hording, as per the Wired article.

I liked Disaster too. There are some infuriating moments, but overall, it does not deserve the bad rap it gets. Like Bioptic said, it's like a bad series of 24, but with a bunch of natural disasters as well as terrorists.
Heck, there's actually a few touching moments set after the major volcanic eruption.

It is a big deal in that it is pretty damn informative as to the kind of support we should expect to see for the Wii U. I'm a pretty staunch fan of Nintendo but this is horseshit plain and simple. It gives me no hope and no real reason to bother getting interested in the Wii U as I have no doubt that 99% of the "gamers" games that come out on it will also either be on the 360, ps3 or PC. And the games that are actually interesting? No localization.
This is incredible. They could have taken this opportunity to build fan support and goodwill, but instead they take a shit on us. They don't even have the courtesy to draw up a press release and give us a straight "yes" or "no." I hope this isn't the kind of support they plan on giving the Wii U.
Actually, NoA was pretty clear with you guys. They could have issued a very ambiguous response in an attempt to avoid upsetting the "core" gamers. It's better to know it's not going to happen than to be jerked along.

Well what are the costs of bringing even one of these games to the Americas? Are they going to turn a profit? Probably not is my guess. I'm sure that's their guess too. And Nintendo isn't about to eat a loss just to make their fans happy.
Too bad. You guys can import though so it's not a big deal.
Yeah, it's hardly the end of the world. Who knows if Pandora's Tower will be english-localized or not but that was my least-anticipated of the three anyway.
Maybe I'll pick up the sequel to Trace Memory too while I'm at it, I've read good stuff about it recently.

Though the 3DS is looking even less appealing for knowing it's region locked if NoA is going to keep up with these shenanigans.

Perhaps, but if it's launching in Europe, the translation and localization is already done. You're talking about getting it rated and put on store shelves. Hell, even the marketing on a game like this could be minimal, done through facebook and via online previews.
This worries me about the future of the WiiU but goddamnit Nintendo knows I am a whore for their first-party titles and they know I will continue to buy their shit because I am helpless bastard.

Xenoblade is a first-party title. Monolithsoft is a Nintendo studio. Therefore, you don't even have the guarantee that they'll release those on the Wii U.
In the 40 minutes since I posted Nintendo's facebook link, there's been 1000 posts put on their response. It's still going at a new angry post every 2.4 seconds.

The whole point of the operation is to get these games brought over, not to hear the canned "Thanks for your enthusiam! There are currently no plans."
So they weren't planning to bring them over. But now people are giving them a reason to. The message is about not being made to import and instead actually having these games available in a space where Joe Everyday from America can get interested, go to his local games shop, and pick up a copy.

There still some localization to go from Europe to America, though. Voice acting would likely have to be redone, since the English on Xenoblade is British English, not American English. Have to go through text for the same reason.
Edit: Just to be clear, I would have no problem with the British English version. Just saying that NoA would likely go through all the text and remove all the excess vowels, because that's how Americans do it.
And then there's this:
1 Euro = 116.65 Yen
1 Pound = 128.89 Yen
1 USD = 80.57 Yen
1 AUD =86.33 Yen
Selling a game in the US for $50 is ~4000 Yen, while Xenoblade is selling on Amazon.jp for 5454 Yen, down from the retail price of 6800 Yen. So the US market would have to sell a lot more volume to make it worthwhile, and NoA probably doesn't think there's enough of a market here.
It does seem counter-intuitive to what they want to accomplish with WiiU, though. "We want to recapture the hardcore gamer!"
"Oh, great, could you kick it off by releasing these two hardcore games (Pandora's Tower was never going to make it over)?"
Not like it's gonna matter though. Let the people be angry, they don't care.
Pretty much. If the Earthbound fans couldn't get the other Mother games here with over a decade and half of dedication to the cause, then this won't change anything, either.

I don't really think there would be any localization necessary. Yea, extra vowels and all that, but perhaps that is part of their marketing. Or not, people buying the game would figure out the difference between aluminum and aluminium.
Edit: What I'm saying is, yes Nintendo may think there's extra costs in localization, but there really doesn't have to be.

I agree with you that going from the UK localization to an American localization is unnecessary. But I don't think NoA would see it that way, and sadly, they're the ones making the decision here.
If Namco can localize Tales of Graces F, a port of a Wii game to the smallest marketshare in the US(PS3), NoA has no excuse for Xenoblade. Heck, if NoE can localize Solatorobo, NoA has no excuse for Xenoblade. NoA is the only publisher I can think of that wouldn't localize it. NoA is making Namco look good. Namco.

I kind of feel bad about laughing, but man, if anyone really went into this expecting anything but a stock response, you were fooling yourself. Like Cygnus wrote, at least they had the decency to give you a pretty solid "no" instead of a flimsy, half-hearted promise that people would cling to for years. All of the Operation Rainfall people seemed so earnest about their work, but if anything, this should remind you how absolutely marginal and niche message-board posters are in the grand scheme of the modern gaming landscape.
I've already kind of written off Nintendo's first-party efforts entirely outside of Mario platformers and Mario Kart (neither of which I see there being any barriers to getting localization), but if I hadn't, I could see why this would piss me off! At least with digital distribution, there's a chance that unlocalized games could be released in other regions (like how the Deathsmiles sequel was released on 360 Games on Demand, there are untranslated PS1 games on PSN and even a few "import special" games on the Wii's VC), but that kind of necessitates Nintendo having their shit together with DD for the WiiU, which is a bet I'm not willing to make.
By the by, incidents like this are precisely why people were so upset about the region locking on the 3DS, a sticking point that I remember many posters here and in other places trying to rationalize as "not really a big deal." The barriers to entry on importing DS and GBA games were completely erased, but now with the Wii and (eventually) the 3DS, it'll be a more involved process that means a good number of people won't even get to experience it at all. I haven't hacked the Wii for anything yet, but I was always mildly curious about Another Code R.
