pc fan wireing (solved thankyou)

my very old dell pc fan has died.

80mm and it had a (dell only) connector

i cant buy a fan with this connector so i have just got a standard fan and i was going to swap the conectors.


only the colours of the wires are diffrent.

the dell has (from left to right) white , red, black


the new fan from left to right has black, red, yellow




what do i do match the colours subtituteing wight for yelloe or do i keep the order from left to right


please help

    follow the same colors: Black is ground, Red is 12V, and white or yellow is the RPM signal.

    I agree with the above. Dell is also notorious for using proprietary everything. Ugh.

    i wired it yellow , red , black.

    and it works fine. thanks for your help


    seems odd that to diffrent plugs have them in diffrent orders
