From the website:

Key Features

-All-new and redesigned: Bigger and better in every way, Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 takes last year's massive hit game and adds new graphics and music, new cards and decks, new challenges, and new multiplayer game modes!
-Gather your allies to face new Archenemies: In the new Archenemy format, you and two allies (players or AI) must work together to take down a powerful Archenemy and survive the extra powers from the Archenemy's special scheme deck
-New decks using some of the newest cards: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 features ten new decks using cards from the latest Magic:The Gathering expansions, including your first chance to play with cards from the Magic 2012 Core Set. Each deck also offers 16 additional cards that can be unlocked as well.
-Modify your deck for your own play style: We listened to what the community asked for, and in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 players can now modify their decks to play the way they want. Players can add or remove cards from both starting cards and earned unlocked cards for each deck. Want more spells or creatures in your deck? The choice is yours!
-Fifteen puzzling challenge levels: Puzzles are back and better than ever with difficulties ranging from easy to (really) hard including new Archenemy challenges.
Three- and Four-Player Enhanced Co-op Play: Co-op play is enhanced in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. --For the first time, players can invite their friends anywhere in the world to partner up with them to take on the Archenemy or play against live opponents in Two-Headed Giant competition.

It's pretty fun and we should play together and stuff. If people put their gamer names in the thread I'll put them on the lists.

We can talk about the old one too I guess if anybody else still plays it, I do occasionally.

Nope, it's Magic for babies. Or in my case it's Magic methadone because I absolutely cannot be allowed to get near for real Magic again, my kid will have to re-wear her diapers in the box we live in under a bridge because daddy can't control his habits.

It's the same as the last version, it's just that before you could only pull or put back the cards you earned, you couldn't touch the starting deck. Now you can take out whatever you want but only within the cards for that deck. The decks in this one are are way better and more fun to play though and there's more of them.

It's interesting to me how they don't hold your hand after the easy ones. Spoiler for one of the medium ones:
Like how in one where you use the vampire deck and have to block with your creatures but then sacrifice them to pump up the one vampire so it blocks all of the damage from the 9/9. If you didn't know that you could block a creature and then sac the blocker but the attacker stays blocked you'd have no idea what to do there. I'm glad I remembered that tbh.

Duels of the Planeswalkers was kinda fun for me about a year and a half ago when I discovered it on XBLA. I hadn't played Magic in literally like 12 years so it was a cool nostalgia trip. It made me want to get back into Magic to see if it might be fun again. I had a little bout playing again with real cards at the local shop and on MTGO.

Anyway Duels is okay but it's really really frustrating that you have almost no power over your deck. You can't even swap the cards you win for the individual decks in and out for other cards--you can only ADD them. So your (frequently poorly) designed deck of 60 cards just gets larger and larger as you add the unlocked cards, becoming more and more poorly designed.

seriously you can't even control the amound of lands, it's really frustrating, as fun as it is to play a really gorgeous and well designed Magic client like this one

In Duels 2012 you can remove cards from the deck now, so its at least a little better.

I tried playing this once at a friends, but I found it really frustrating that you couldn't just make a deck. Making decks is over half the fun of MTG for me :( It really is a shame that such a lovely system for a game just doesn't live up to it's paper big brother.

Of course I can see why they'd never do it, at least not without some complex micro-transaction scheme.

You can pull whatever you want.

And someone pointed out in a review that having confined decks like this makes programming a halfway competent AI possible, if you could have decks with whatever in them then the AI would be hopelessly broken. I mean there's MTG:O if you really want to put your own stuff together.

So now you actually CAN customize, at least within each deck? Okay, good on them. :^:

In fact, the main reason I ended up playing so much on MTG:O, for the two or three months I was back into Magic, was for limited play. The whole endless collection struggle to play Standard just wasn't attractive to me at all. Draft and Sealed really level the playing field.

Since I have been gradually getting a bit back into magic, I picked this up on a bit of a whim, and have been pretty pleased with it.

The lack of customization was actually a plus for me, it meant that Wizard's wouldn't be tempting me with extra cards and if I was going to play online then everyone would be on even footing.

Yeah, the only tournaments I ever did were sealed or draft. Level playing field, and at worst you still walk out with some cards.

I have the last three pre-con sliver decks WotC made. I don't have the very first one they put out and I'm not about to spend that kind of money for a single deck, but these other three are pretty sweet and I only use them to piss friends off something fierce. The only thing that can beat any of them consistently is this one archenemy deck my friend bought and that thing is monstrously unfair. :D

Coat of Arms. That's the ticket.

I traded one guy a holographic rare card for one, and another was given for me to use in a tourney.

Well, it was given to me because I entered the tourney when I was 13 and I didn't understand the rules, namely the one that limited which cards you could use. So I entered using slivers from Urza's (muscle slivers, oen artifact sliver) and I wanted to take my money and leave when they told me I had to forfeit my first round. So the guy let me borrow his coat of arms, told me to keep playing, but to be sure to give it back to him at the end.

Well, I lost the next round to a kid I had been beating all day with my regular deck. I was angry and upset, so I called my mom and walked around outside while I waited for her to pick me up.

Completely forgot that I had that guy's card.

He got to keep my money though, so technically I bought it for five bucks.
