Redirecting a specific port of an IP's DNS to a different IP

I'm not entirely fluent in nerdspeak so I may have fucked up my jargon in the thread title, but here's the gist:

I have a domain - nationsatwar.org - and when you try and connect to a server in minecraft it defaults to port 25565. For example, if I put 'derpcraft.com' into the connection box, it's checking derpcraft.com:25567 to connect.

Nationsatwar.org hosts the main site for the game otherwise.

So I'm wondering if it's possible to somehow set it up so that anyone trying to connect to nationsatwar.org:25567 - just that one port - gets redirected to a different IP of my choosing - specifically the IP we actually host our game on.

Not unless you setup some kind of proxy, and it would be a performance hit especially if the servers are not on the same network.

You'd typically go with a subdomain for a setup like this, is there a reason that is no good?
