Every member of her family has been blacklisted by the military for that. Ashley is an excellent soldier, but because of that history, she's been on guard duty, instead of serving with the fleet (and thus having no exposure to aliens). Given all that, can you really blame her for being a bit xenophobic, particularly when she doesn't let it interfere with doing her job?

overrun colony in ME2 I'd have left them both on Virmire, if it were possible.
