yeah broken glass bits really put a damper on barefootableness in urban areas

although aside from glass I think it's just a matter of walking on your bare feet enough that your soles get toughened up, not a matter of being born with tough soles.

eh, when i run in my broken bottle filled neighborhood or an especially long run i'll use my five fingers...but for most asphalt, track running i'll go barefoot and not worry...you do have to build up to it since your feet have been protected for so long, though

either way...as far as shoes go most things over like $60 aren't usually worth it

aren't five fingers just plain thin rubber?

how does that NOT get destroyed by glass?

my feet are fine and calloused, if I'm walking around my apartment, or within 50 yards of it, I'm barefoot

Eh, 3mm of tough rubber is pretty thick...i mean, watch where you're going and don't step on the huge shards but it's easily going to protect you from the tiny glass slivers that you couldn't see/avoid......there's a stretch under this overpass that i run through each weekend near my apartment that always has broken glass under it and i've never had issues with it in the year and a half i've lived here

protip: if you do it in a parking garage or similar echo-y place, the echos will greatly mask any missteps or out of time steps

also a large part of why stompers yell so much, same reason

So I woke up early today for an appointment at Midas to get my car checked out due to a problem. 3 hours and $250 later I leave and it sounds good. Few miles later I notice some acceleration problems. Then there's shaking. Now my check engine light is on. Now I'm back at Midas and gonna have to wait and hopefully the guy just fucked up something small. I am kinda pissed.

feel good of my day so far: chatted up a nice old lady while waiting in line for groceries, she was a sweet old bird, so it was great to chat

downside: fucking grocery line took 27 minutes to do 3 people with half-carts or less

    what

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttt

Beast, where did you buy your five fingers? I've always wanted to try them out but every single running store here sells out of them ridiculously fast, or at least the ones I know of. I don't want to buy them online cause I know how perfectly they have to fit.

I get mine from City Sports, although if your location means Scottsdale then you're out of luck as they aren't on the west coast. You could order them online though and get a few different sizes and send the others back, ha.

I have broken down 3 times on route 7!

My old car was a piece of shit.

Having an unreliable car is the worst thing.

I had a saturn SL2 for over a year and it was such a piece of shit. 2500 dollars in total repair work, double what I paid for the damn thing, and it never worked right.

but now I've got a 97 nissan hardbody truck and while trucks really aren't my thing, being able to drive a machine for an estimated 220,000 more miles absolutely is. I made a to/from 1200 mile drive in 2 days with 0 issues. (aside from gas prices) It was magical.

I might be going to Yosemite next year.

    Kind of excited.

I went up there last fall, it was great. Most beautiful area in California, perhaps the whole USA.

I hiked up the back side of Half Dome last year. Jesus, talk about "Ways to make yourself feel good." That was one of the most awesome things I've ever done.
