I've been having problems with crashes in minecraft, so I decided to go through a routine uninstall reinstall to see if it would help, no luck. Then I tried doing the same with java as I thought the problem might be there, yet when I run the java installer I get through the whole installation and even to the page that says its complete, yet once i close that page i get this error.

Installer : Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error5: Access is denied.

This seems to happen every time I run the java installer. I tried running javara http://raproducts.org/ to remove any old versions of java but I still get the problem. I also tried testing my java version here http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and it comes back as fine.

Any ideas what may be causing this and a way to fix it?

What OS? Are you running the installer as admin?

I'm running win7 64 bit. And I'm not sure, but the profile I'm running it on has admin privileges.

Try right-clicking on the installer executable and selecting "Run as administrator", if it's available in the menu.

Do you have antivirus software that might be preventing the installation? You could try turning off your AV for the install.

A friend and I both had the same problem with Java crashing on Minecraft all the time. Finding a download of 64 bit Java fixed it.

Tried running as admin, same outcome. I believe I had been using a 64 bit version of java, but I'll take another look.

I had this exact problem on my Win7-64 gaming PC. It was resolved after I removed all versions of Java, re-installed the newest 64-bit Java, and deleted/downloaded Minecraft.
