Questions about Manga storage

I was wondering a couple of things:

1) Is there a way I can protect my Manga covers? I mean like laminating or some such that gives protection from bump and scratches?

2) I have been to Walmart and a couple of furnitures stores yet am unable to find a shelf thats vertical than horizontal. I mean regular ones have less shelve space so you would have to spilt the series in order to keep it.

Is anything like this even possible?

The best way is probably with plastic sleeves, but that depends on the manga. Is this manga printed in comic book from or rather the bound paper back kind? As for shelving I would look at Ikea.com they have a plethora of storage options. I got 2 book cases from ikea and they have adjustable shelves so I can change the height. They were pretty inexpensive and have survived 2 moves so far and hold all my books comics and manga just fine.

Most people who store books in bags either use comic-book bags folded over and taped shut. If you have a lot of oddly sized stuff you can buy a vacuum-sealer and bags, which can be used to create custom bags. You could laminate the covers with stick-on laminate, but that will make the binding stiff and it will start to crack. In the long run your Manga books are going to get brittle regardless of what you do, because the paper used for those things is utter crap, and isn't meant to last.

There are all kinds of narrow shelving units out there to fit any budget range, try Ikea, or if you want good stuff, pick up some interior design magazines and start checking out the advertiser's web sites.
