Steam is selling Mass Effect for one-third its normal price, so prepare for an influx of newbies asking obvious questions, like this one: How do I acquire ME2 DLC? I don't suppose it's also 66% off.

Do you konw how long it's on sale for? I want to buy it as a gift for a couple of people, but won't be able to do so until I'm off work later today. (like after 7pm CST)

Like SvK I really just want the DLC to go on sale. I'm not going to play through again until I get the DLC, but it's been long enough since most of it released that I don't want to pay full price. This is the problem with buying stuff online from somewhere other than Steam. It never goes down in price!

Honestly, fuck Origin. I hope all the server rooms get hit by meteors. I downloaded Origin once I realized that the ME (Mirror's Edge in this case) DLC purchased there could be made to work with Steam's version, and the brief experience was painful. It was a lot of fun to try and find the right site with the right password for EA's merged accounts to actually work and stop telling me the password I literally just fucking changed and triple checked was wrong.

The DLC pretty much never goes on sale (I've seen a 2 for 1 sale of Bioware funbux exactly once), since you have to buy it from Bioware directly. Plus, with the advent of ME3 marketing, their website has become even more confusing, since the only way to access the ME2 version of the site is a tiny logo near the top right of the page.
Go here, click the buy on PC button on the left, set up a Bioware/EA account if you don't have one or sign in if you do, then go to Profile on the left and Add Bioware Points, which I'd link if EA wasn't telling me my actual password is wrong (see above) and buy funbux equal to exactly whatever you're purchasing. For that matter, the best is Shadowbroker at $10, then Kasumi at $7.
Once you've got the right number of points, go back to the DLC page or here and buy them and then think about how antagonistic EA is as a company that you can't do any of this shit on Steam.
Edit: Also you have to go under profile -> 'your registered game content' once you buy to DLC to download the installers and run them; it doesn't automatically happen in game or anything.
Thanks for the info SoundsPlush. You'd think there would be one producer or exec at Bioware who would realize that making their content difficult to buy and never putting it on sale or lowering the price even after a year would be a bad move. This is why it needs to be on Steam. The people at Valve have realized how to get your content to the most people in an easy fashion.

I preordered my CE from Amazon, for Xbox though. So, I'll be getting a lithograph that actually exists [smug.jpg]
Ha, I did the same thing. Though, if ME3 does go to steam, I will eventually buy it for PC too. Mostly because I've had enough Xbox 360s die on me that I'm not planning on buying another one, and if this one dies, I will still want to play ME.

it's likely the financial benefits outweigh the fees they'd pay to steam. it's the classic printer/ink tactic.

Think I'm going to re-install ME2 tonight, any DLC's that I should avoid purchasing?

But that's not the point. I'm not saying that they should be on Steam, though that would satisfy everyone as I'm sure they'd make more money doing so. I'm saying that they need to use Steams pricing model.
Steam treats digital goods just like a store treats real ones. Things go down in price when they get older, usually as everything still goes through the publisher. There are sales to both increase interest and sell to people who are not going to buy at the normal price.
You don't just put a good out for sale slap a price tag onto it and call it good. There's more to do in order to stay competitive, respond to normal consumer demand, and to make money. Bioware doesn't do it. They should either outsource it to Steam, which I'm sure they can't legally due because of EA, or start to treat their goods as any other store.

they don't do it because they don't have to.
they have no competition for mass effect 2 DLC because they're the only source for it. they make most of the DLC really goddamn good so that it has great word-of-mouth appeal - and demand remains high.
thus they get to charge what they want for it and nobody can tell them otherwise.
i mean, with a normal game it's released to the market at large, and each retailer can drop the price and eventually it'll drop across the board.
but DLC isn't released to the market, it's only available from them, and it's a pure-profit arrangement. they don't have to pay fees to steam or any other third party.

It's been $20 for a while. It's like $7 now.
Even ME1 is still selling for $20.

So, like, a.jpg that they want you to think is worth something.
That is super wank, really disappointing. Also awful; Shep in a hoodie would look terrible.
If only that hoody were a time hoody!
Why I fear the ocean.
Now, I played through the original on the 360 twice, and loved it.
Can any of you kind sirs point me to a place that I can find ME save files that will mimic the choices I made while playing through the first game?
Wow, that's handy! Thanks.

I think a hoodie is more appropriate than the hobo leather outfit Shepard can run around in. No idea where that one came from.
More appropriate than hobo leather doesn't make it appropriate :P

You want to see this on Shepard? :winky:
I think it is pretty cool myself.
An actually decent looking casual look instead of the jerk fit we got in me2
You speak the truth.
When my Shepard wears it, I feel like he should be sitting in a leather chair, with a cigarette in one hand, and a Vesper Martini in the other.
Shepard can pull it off. She just doesn't feel the need to be that flashy.
Why do you think Kasumi quietly waits in her room and wears a hood?
