[Buy on?] Ninety-Nine Nights

Does anyone have any experience with the full version of Ninety-Nine Nights? I played the demo and it was fairly uninspiring, but I have the opportunity to buy it for $10 new at a small gamestore near by and I wanted to know what you guys thought of the full version. I've read what the reviewers had to say, and the basically say it is a repetitive button-mash extravagance with little or no value to play through it. I also hear it is a very short game. I'm on the fence about buying it because I figure for 10 bucks, that is basically a game rental so even if I only get 8-10 hours out of it might be worth it.

So, worth a look or buy myself some Japanese food?

I got it off Playchain.com weeks ago and just played it last night. The voice acting isn't nearly as horrible as some say. It's about on par with a bad english dubbed anime. The cutscene quality is very good.

As for in game, it's a lot like Diablo in that you are just doing some attacks and using some spells on wave after wave of badguy. It is pretty cool doing a tornado attack with your sword that has you spiraling into the air and lifting 20 enemies with you.

The graphics and sound are also good.

If you like the sound of being like Sauron in the intro of LOTR Fellowship's prologue where he is swinging that big ass mace and sending people flying, then there's something here for you.

EDIT: I paid 25 gamebucks for my sealed copy and feel that it was worth it, so $10 is a pretty safe bet. Is it a new or used copy?

I bought it new when it came out and I enjoyed it a lot, I only wish it was longer...
It really is mindless fun but it has a lot of style and the PCs are different enough to give them all a try. The story kinda blows though but I really liked the music and graphics plus there are few to no camera or control problems.

All and all I do not regret buying it, however I want a new kingdom under fire!!!

I didn't like the demo, but I'd snap it up for $10.

Get one of the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games that's on 360 instead.

The reviewer comments that it's a repetitive button mash are correct, but moot - that genre I guess IS one big button mashing festival. That's fine. I kinda like that - when I don't want to play something really hard or just relax and kill some dudes, popping in a N3 style game is great.

N3 is hard, though. Not even hard in the fun sense, but hard in the "This is a 40 minute level with one checkpoint and you're going to fail at the final hurdle and not want to sit through the whole level again."

It gets really, really frustrating, and I haven't even had the stomach to play past the first character's story.

I honestly reccomend you get one of the DW/SW games instead. The series is hated on just as much, but for that type of game I think that Koei's games beat N3 hands down every time. Also, if you get one of the "Empires" games, you get the added bonus of the strategy map and all that jazz.

On the 360 there's: Samurai Warriors 2, Samurai Warriors 2 Empires, Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires. Check one of those out.

I bought it for $10, and I'd recommend it. It can get hard, but out of three character arcs, I've only died once of a freak accident. The giant climactic battles at the end of each character arc are well worth the time and money, especially if you have a large tv.

Yeah, it's a good $10 or rental game. I keep meaning to go back and finish up the other character's arcs, but I have too many games I'm working on as it is. It really takes a large, HD TV to appreciate the epicness of battles though. As for difficulty, there's only one battle that I've found consistently hard (the final one for Iphny and her brother. The level is huge, there's only one or two checkpoints, a ton of enemies, the final boss for them and health items suddenly becomes a rare commodity).

The power attacks are very cool, though. Probably the best part of the game is using your ultimate attacks to send hundreds of enemies flying through the air.

I'll put one more vote up for the game being difficult, but if you're a fan of the genre you shouldn't have a super huge amount of trouble or anything. 10 bucks is a good price for it.

Yeah, worth ten bucks. I paid £20 for it and love it. Granted, it's a bit reptitive and full of button mashing but the genre is really about being swept into the moment more than intricate gameplay and N3 does it VERY well.
