Hi folks...I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 (standard edition).
I'm running on a virtual windows 2008 R2 machine.
I've remoted into the box - got the media loaded. Logged in the admin account, and running the setup with admin privledges.
It gets to "setup support files" and I click next to begin the install operation. It appears to start the process, with a progress bar that completes.
and then..... nothing. No message, no window...it just stops. The process isnt even running anymore.
I figured it out.
MSI packages won't install from a remote connection device. If you define a drive through RDP and try to run the installer through it - it might start the install, but the second it starts to load the package - crashtastic.
The solution is to turn the media into ISO files and move them into the virtual environment. Mount them there, and then do the install. Works like a charm.

do you have any anti-virus running that would block this install?
