Has anyone ever done this? Basically, I want to be able to toggle lights and set AC via my linux/windows PC.
I see there are two major brands?

    I've played around with X-10 stuff years ago, it could get pretty intricate patterns set up if you bought the right gear. The basic programmable kits used to work well, but the wireless video was just a fun toy, back then anyway.

    Look up your local Control 4 dealer and then bend over.

    EDIT: Though the basic stuff what you're looking at isn't badly priced. But it's still not cheap.
