So I am in need of a good defragger. One that will do a damn good job and one that will run with a small amount of space left on the HDD. Recommendations?

Windows' built in one works fine. If you have a small amount of space left, you're not really going to get much of a benefit - there's less space for Windows to move everything around into..

    I use AusLogics Disk Defrag.
    Good, free, and fast.

Raxco's Perfectdisk 8 is one of the best ones available. Fast, reliable & even works with Vista. The only drawback I can think of is that it's not free, but $40 isn't to bad imo.

Other options would be O&O Defrag & Diskeeper, but both are more expensive and none of them do a better job.

Oh and no, the Windows built-in one most certainly does not do a good enough job. Not even close.

    Diskeeper is the shit.

    And I'm the expert.

Got nothing against the product itself, but what I do have a problem with is their "want to use our application on another version of Windows or perhaps add a few more features? Pay us more money!" policy.

I am absolutely positive that good, resource-minimal, and most importantly, free defraggers exist out there. I used to have one, but I don't remember the name of it anymore. Woops.

So chalk me up there in the "I want a free, and good one as well" category.

I've always used the the free version of Dirms; small, no installer, ran through the command line and is fairly fast. Unfortunitly I cant seem to find a download link for the most recent version of it anymore.

    Ashampoo Magical Defrag

It runs all the time (assuming your computer isn't doing anything) and you never have to think about it. Amazing piece of software.

Because of the way it works it doesn't matter if you only have a little bit of space left on your hard drive (of course it can't move files bigger than the amount of free space remaining).
