Moving to a new city

Okay, here's the deal. I'm going to be moving to Stafford, TX (right outside of downtown Houston) in about a month for a co-op job at Texas Instruments. I'm super excited about this, because I think the job will be great and it'll be my first time moving away and living on my own. I currently reside in Cincinnati, OH -- not a terribly small town, but not the size of Houston, either. I'm not nervous or anything about moving, I'm just wondering if anyone might know of good places to see and things to do in/around Houston. Also if anyone knows of the best places/ways to meet people while I'm down there. I don't have trouble meeting people up here, but I'm in college and being on campus everyday kinda helps that out. But we're talking more of the real-life stuff here. So, if anyone can give me any pointers on those things, it'd be greatly appreciated.

edit: I will be living there for a total of 6 consecutive months, and hopefully another 6 next year if the job goes well.
