I've been scouring the web for information on notifications and processing times for student visa applications to the UK, and have only come up with processing times from the start of the application to the time it's completed (somewhere between 10 and 30 days from start to finish). For some reason, I'm not receiving updates about my application from the border agency in New York.
Here's what I've done: I mailed my packet full of all required documents via FedEx on 25 July. I checked my tracking number obsessively, and according to the FedEx tracking system, someone at the agency signed for it (it's required that they do) and it was delivered on 1 August, at 3:26PM. I've received nothing from the border agency saying "we got your application!" or anything, as was promised.
I believe I'm supposed to receive e-mails from them 1) when they receive the application, and 2) when it's complete and the visa is on its way to me. Is this correct?
I doubt anyone on this forum has been in my exact situation, but am posting here in case anyone else has had to deal with the US/UK border agencies recently and has experienced something similar.
My question is this: when is it appropriate for me to get in touch with the border agency about my application? Is a week too long to wait? Is it not long enough? All of their e-mails (about completing the application online, confirming my biometrics appointment, et c) have reached me fine until now. If I don't hear anything from them by Monday of next week, what's the best way to contact them?
I know it's only been 2 days and it's likely that my application is just sitting in a pile somewhere and everything will be lovely, if a bit slow, but wanted some reassurance and information if anyone has it. That envelope has my friggin' passport in it! Along with my hopes and dreams for my future. Probably freaking out too much.
