(cross posted to here because apparently people in Artist's Corner are being close-minded douches and because this also deals with the topic of maximum file compression research)
"Gentleman, behold.
Possibly the smallest meaningful image ever created by man.
^ (this arrow is not a part of the image)
This is my latest creation. Been plotting it out for a week now and it's finally done.
Probably the tiniest little image of a scenery ever seen.
It depicts a game of pong, between too bars, strategically bouncing a ball back and forth forever in the void. Their conquests know no bounds.
The amazing thing about this is not only the small size of the image but the small size of the file. I am still looking for ways to compress the file size even more than it is now. Uses a total of 15 pixels. Currently stands at 38 bytes (pings take up more memory than this). Created in a text editor on a Linux machine.
The single line of code (comes out bugged on the forums so it's not working well)

As a comparison, find any image on your computer and open it in notepad.
In theory one could type it into any purely empty file and then have it run as a gif and produce the same image.
Also, has the odd organic effect of developing a reddish tint when grouped in large clusters.
Comparisons to other stuff.

Criticize.
To anyone who thinks this is easy or bullshit or whatever, I challenge them to come up with an even smaller image of something meaningful (not a random pattern or random pixels) that is both smaller in file size and uses less pixels.
I also want to know if anyone has any ideas for bringing the file size down even more. My goal is to bring it down a few more bites.
Also, try setting it as your desktop background and have it tile. Looks like snowcrash."

Where's the image?
Source? What is adventure?

And I didn't post it because I'm lazy.
EDIT: Eh, here it is: Although I suppose that might be the secret item, not the main character.
edit: Ohoho, so that's why you've reposted this in here. The original shit thread got locked.

5 out of 7 people I've showed my image to recognize my image as a game of pong
But I bet exactly 0 out of 7 of those same people will know that pixel was the guy from adventure.
Your one pixel simply doesn't have enough mindshare to be it's image.
So you win because your image is of a more WELL KNOWN game? Would you win if you posted a screenshot of Halo and I posted a screenshot of the Abaranger videogame?
I can't find it so maybe I dreamed it, but I believe I saw something recently where some team of scientists made the worlds smallest meaningful message out of like 10 single atoms or something.
I doubt any gamers would get that a single pixel is from Adventure without being told.
No. The idea is, that my picture exists only as my picture.
Your gray pixel exists everywhere. Every time you see gray pixels I doubt you think of millions of copies of the guy from Adventure.
And hell, if my image were animated it would be even more obvious it was pong, but I refrained from that because it would increase file size.
Want to know the absolute truth?
I was mostly just goofing off. Think you won, Obs, think you lost, I don't care. Even I have better shit to do than this.

You don't need to know about compressing and stuff to make a small image.
But it's kind of cool to make an image with the smallest amount of data possible.
besides, my picture of snuggling toothbrushes is so fascinating my friend cried.
This is true, but what he has done is neither cool nor interesting.

Your pong picture is hard to see because you've used black as the color for the negative space. As it is, it looks more like a fat man on his hands and knees.
I think this stuff is pretty interesting. It's kind of like working backwards from a rorschach test to try to make something that everyone recognizes as the same, but with as little information as possible. So I guess I don't see why the thread needs to be shot down like this.
yeah, pretty much. was trying to gently point that out.
Freudian analysis FTW! Now this is an art thread proper.

Not much of a difference from the pong picture really, the main idea is to use color this time.
The next picture is revolutionary because it's built up by pixels AND eliminates all 0 space COMPLETELY (not just virtually the way some transparent gifs do.)

A grand total of 7 pixels. It will be a gun. The shading is what will make it real.
Amazing things will happen here soon, just you wait.
edit: oh..... I see...
Not trying to be a jerk here...
It's a GIF whose only saving grace is the fact that it is incredibly small. That's not a very impressive.
Congrats on... making it small. But I wouldn't say it is worthy of any preferential treatment because of the gimmick behind it.
GG?
