I am looking for a used car. My budget is 10,000 USD. I live in Oklahoma.
Either....
A small Truck:
S-10
Ranger (not for me)
Dodge Ram
Tacoma (can't afford one that isn't torn up)
etc.
Or a Sporty Car
Cobalt (test drove it... not for me)
Tiburon
Eclipse
etc.
Well since I do not know about cars in great detail I am asking for help from the Penny Arcade community. I HATE dealers, I think they are only there to rip me. The only places I know of to find used cars that are for sell by owner is www.autotrader.com and www.ebay.com.
Is there some other websites you can recommend?
Are there some cars you can recommend or speak out against?
I'd recommend figuring out what you actually want, the difference between an Eclipse and an S10 is pretty huge. Why do you want a small truck versus a sport compact? If you don't have any real reason for getting a truck, save yourself some gas money and buy a Civic.
The correct acronym is "etc" not "ect" <_<; Also: did it occur to you that a lot of people have the same car because it are decent cars? :? To me it seems you're buying a car to impress people with, yet you want to buy a used car, this doesn't really make sense to me. :?
I am not trying to impress people I am trying to give myself a treat before I get married and have kids. Then I will be forced to drive a Civic. I need to buy a used car because I do not want to get into dept.
Taco Bell does win the franchise war according to the tome of knowledge that is Demolition Man. However, I've watched Demolition Man more then a few times and never once did I see WoW. In conclusion Taco Bell has more lasting power then WoW.
Miata's are solid, cheap, reliable and fun sports cars. However there are image issues.
But seeing as you're only buying a car to impress people I assume you have image issues anyway and no matter what you do, you'll end up buying a lemon.
Depending on where you live, there may not be a whole lot of mechanics with any knowledge in foreign vehicles outside of dealer shops. If that's the case, and you don't want to or cannot do your own maintenance, do yourself a favor and buy an American make (as long as it's not a Ford).
Also, pickup trucks are great fun to drive, and incredibly useful to boot. I drive one every day, and I fully recommend getting one if you ever do any kind of towing or moving.
I don't see how wanting something 'fun' while I am young leads to me buying a lemon no matter what I do...
Camrys and Accords aren't good enough for you on the grounds that "everyone has one". All the compacts you listed are very pretty but don't really perform as well as an Accord or Camry (i.e; image-cars), and you would apparently actually prefer a Tiburon over a Miata which tells me you're definitely not concerned with sportiness in terms of handling characteristics but rather sportiness in terms of image. You are basing your choice on image. Don't pretend you're not. You're welcome to do it, it's your money afterall, but don't go pretending you're actually interested in the calibre of machine rather than the impression it will make. You will end up getting advice that doesn't fit your actual issue.
Serviced at Wal-Mart with proof going back to when he bought it in 2002.
So I see you need a VIN to do a carfax....
Like Thanatos says, get the VIN for it.
Also, I would be wary if any service beyond Oil Changes/Tire Rotations have been done at Wal-Mart. Any of the regular services should have been done at a dealership of some sort.

One reason I might get a truck is:
1. Chicks in Oklahoma dig trucks.
2. In 2 or 3 years I plan to buy a house and build a garden and do house improvement.
And yes, craigslist and cars.com :^:

Jeeps of various models and years. If I remember my midwest peculiarities correctly, people tend to love to go 'muddin' especially the ladies.
(sorry for bad pun)
I'd say a Nissan Frontier.

Ok nice flame Oden. I don't like Miatas.

An Eclipse from that time frame will be ok if you can find one that hasn't been beat to shit and has a turbo.
A Tiburon would be the last resort and only if it's a V6 version.
A Cobalt should just be removed from your mind.
Trucks I dont know about. I hate trucks unless there is a valid reason to drive one.

Youth pastor or not, you're nuts to buy a car without running it through CarFAX first.

This is a great in-depth review site for about every model and year imaginable.
