So this is (hopefully) a bit of a different request than normal. I'm curious about whether or not there is already a gaming podcast that is more of a roundtable debate than just a quicker, couple minutes per subject kind of format that most podcasts are today.
To give an example of what I'm looking for, is anyone around here familiar with say, Cranky Geeks, or its earlier ZDTV/Tech TV incarnation Silicon Spin? A group of talkers, a moderator, and larger amount of time dedicated to a couple specific topics per show, the more the panelists opinions differ the better. One of the things I've noticed far too often in gaming podcasts is that the groups tend to agree with one another far too often, and you don't usually get much insight into why the opinions differ.
Hope I'm making sense. This thread is in order to find out if there's anything like this at the moment, but it's also seeing what kind of interest there would be in such a thing.
1up yours has a format similar to what you are looking for. They don't always agree with each other.
Yeah, that's the closest I've heard to what you're looking for. Although, I think they spend a BIT too much time talking about racing games each episode.
Next-Generation podcast is a great gaming podcast. They do cycle through some topics but within each topic, there's a round table-style debate amongst numerous "talkers" as well as some interesting guests. Last week they had the president of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (the organization responsible for the awards given out at DICE), Joseph Olin, speaking.
1UP Yours is also awesome. Similar to Next-Gen in style but different in topics. Next-Gen focuses more on the gaming industry while 1UP focuses on specific games. Other podcasts on the 1UP network are not as good but still interesting (like GFW--Games for Windows).

The only podcast I listen to is the GFW podcast and it meets your requirements. It's more a group of guys sitting around talking about a list of subjects they brought rather than a "show" type format. They vary from around 30 minutes to generally around an hour.

One of my favorite podcasts. They're actually hilarious at times.

It's been so long since I've posted here, I've removed my signature since most of what I had here were broken links. Shows over, you can carry on to the next post.
I've recently started listening to several of the 1up Podcasts - I started with 1up Yours (which I will agree is definitely the style of show you are looking for) and gradually started subscribing to the others a little at a time. A lot of the editors sit in on more than one, and they are all quite a bit more enjoyable if you watch the 1up Show as well - not a requirement, but sometimes it helps to put a face to the name, etc.
1up yours is pretty good. There is a bit of disagreement at times. The most common source of disagreement is everyone is critical of the PS3, except 1 editor, Shane. He sounds like he is on Sony's payroll when he defends them.
If you really want to listen to disagreement there are 1 or 2 Electronic Gaming Monthly podcasts within the last month, where Shane and his boss go at it over PS3 sucking, his boss sounds like he really wants to strangle/fire him at points.
Shane is hysterical. I'm really starting to wonder if he really, honestly feels like that (well, we know he does to a degree) or if he's self-aware-ly becoming a complete caricature/parody of himself. As the 1UP Show has proven, though, he's not a bad actor (witness the very end of episode 63, talking to Milky about VF5, where Shane plays the asshole - for laughs - very well). Anyway, yes, 1UP Yours is generally a truly excellent show and the four regulars riff off each other extremely well - they're all genuine characters without being contrived ('cept Shane, of course). And those Shane vs Shoe moments on EGM Live are to die for.
There's a podcast called 360Arcadians Live! that's sort of worth checking out, too. I kinda like it. Speaking of which, I need to get back to editing this week's episode.

Uh, what? They talked about racing games in the last podcast because those are two games that are coming out this month but otherwise they talk about shooters far more. Back in November it was pretty much the Gears of War Show.
Anyway, I listen to 1UP Yours all the time. Shane isn't anywhere near as bad as everyone makes him seem, though he does come up with some stupid arguments at times (his defence of Sony excluding the component cable come to mind). Garnet is the one that annoys me the most and even then it's not THAT often. I mean, the guy started insulting Sony because they make too many sequels and then gave MGS4 and DMC4 as examples! Recently he also said that the downloadable content isn't in the PS3 version of Oblivion because of RAM issues (which Bethesda has denied).
Outside of 1UP Yours, I listen to EGM Live and GFW.
GFW podcast is absolutely terrible as a gaming podcast. As a slice of pure awesome comedy though, it's complete win.
As for roundtable debates your best bet as far as my experience is the gamasutra podcasts @ http://www.gdcradio.net/ they've had a few roundtables on issues such as review scores etc.
Currently listening to PC Gamer Podcast, Next-Gen Podcast, 360 Arcadians and GFW. I find a lot of the gamasutra stuff far to heavy handed most of the time tho

Yeah, both Platformers and 1up Yours are excellent podcasts. 1up Yours is a bit more polished, but that's not much of an issue in podcasts.
Personally, I'm looking right now for a podcast specializing in City of Heroes/Villains. I'd even settle for an MMO podcast that's not specifically about WoW. Does anyone know of such a thing?

Platformers and even Arcadians is getting back into the type of podcast I was talking about above that I'm not really looking for at the moment.
Next Generation is a good one though. I've listened to it for a while and it's definitely a lot closer to what I'm looking for. Again, I like the idea of something a little less scattered around a ton of subjects and something a bit more debatelike among a few concentrated subjects.
Not really a gamer only podcast I highly recommend ExtraLife Radio for general geekery and happy times. They usually touch on gaming at least once per episode. It's the only podcast that I can listen to without getting bored (the attention span of a crack addicted hamster).
If that isn't your kind of thing then I recommend The Instance for a WoW podcast. World of Warcraft is a game... and it's a podcast about it..that makes it a game podcast.

IIRC there was an EGM Live podcast recently where Jen called him out on his unflinching Sony defense. She seems to think that he's not budging just to please the forum fanboys. And yes, Shane vs Shoe/Milky/Luke/anyone for that matter almost always = comedy win.
It may not be exactly the format you're looking for, but I really enjoy GameSpot's "The HotSpot". Jeff can be hilarious sometimes, and I really like Rich as a host.

I was really surprised Jen said something, she's normally nice and quite, only interrupting shane and shoes bickering when they need to move on. This time she was going at him, and I couldnt believe it.
The only podcast that I listen to that pertains to video games is the Gamercast Network Video Game Show.
They have topics within the show, but each topic is discussed in a round table style. They come across as having an anti-Sony slant, but I don't think it's their fault that it's so easy to bash Sony these days. I think the show is hilarious, but as always, your mileage may vary.

If you like the GFW guys (or at least Jeff Green and Sean Malloy), then listen to the 1up WoW podcast Legendary Thread. I don't think I ever get tired of listening to the GFW guys. I even got a friend of mine in England hooked on the show, and they don't get any Ziff-Davis mags there.

Their shows aren't always gaming, but 110% of the time very funny. They have a very natural feel to the show...it doesn't at all sound scripted. check them out...well worth the download.
In case anyone missed them last week, the GFW/1up Yours podcasts were both absolutely EPIC....I can't count how many times I cracked up laughing.
Oh and re: The Hotspot, I enjoy this one a lot as well, mostly just to hear the various editors' reactions to the news, rather than the news itself, since I usually read about most of the topics before they record the show.

What?? A PA podcast? Can anybody possibly link an old edition? Pwease?
For some reason my iTunes doesn't like The Platformers. It will download an episode, and then I'll never get an update.
also of note is massively online gamer.

I cant believe how open the guy from FASA was, even with Steve(?) and Luke talking shit the whole time.
And I never thought I would say this, but Shane was the voice of reason during the whole shadowrun debate.
