Egyptian Hieroglyphs

So all over Glasgow these posters are showing up. I tried searching for hieroglyphs on Google but I couldn't figure out the first three because there's a couple of different letters they could be. Anyone else want to have a stab at it?

Chances are it's just an advert for a gig or something, but it caught my eye and now I'm curious about them.

I don't recognize those first three heiroglyphs, either. I'm guessing it's just their play on them for a band or something.

    Too easy. It reads...

Bird, Snake, Bird, Tiny Maze, Line thats been crossed out, Giant Eye

Seriously, I have no idea. Wife studied egyptology at University though, Ill link her the thread.

It's kind of difficult to tell. The first and third symbols are the same, but it could be one of three bird symbols. Also, it's using the very, very bastardised Egyptian that they use on the tourists, not proper Egyptian hieroglyphs.

So my best guess would be that it reads something like AJAHSR. My guess would be a band name or a new bar or something. It's almost certainly advertising, because it's definitely not a proper Ancient Egyptian word.

I actually took Middle Egyptian in College. Of course that was years ago and the class was canceled by a strike, but... hmm.

The first (and third) almost look like a glyph that was used to denote either 'a' or a glottal stop -- depending on who you ask.

The second one (the horned viper) is traditionally transliterated as 'dj' I think.

The maze is 'h' or 'k' maybe -- I can't remember which... ah, never mind. Without my old textbooks on hand it's been far too long for me to help out. Sorry. I'll be interested to hear what it turns out to be, though.

I've never seen the eye before. Could be a mouth, which is "R"

I'm pretty sure they mean the R. Some of the other symbols are written badly, and I think they assumed the mouth was an eye. This was obviously done by someone who didn't know anything about hieroglyphs and just ripped something off the net.

So does AJAHSR mean anything to you?
