This can only be even better.

I'm pretty sure I need a PSP now.

(And the same month as P3, no less. Ouch.)

I didn't much care for the Bioshock review. It didn't deliver on the funnies like the previous reviews, but it wasn't bad.

The ending was very weak, though. Usually his videos have good endings.

Did you just review a review?

I found reVerse's review to be too short and a little light on content and quality. Still, his punctuation and sentence structure was better than most.

When I first played this game on GBA, I was kind of lukewarm on it.

But with full voiceovers and such? Maybe I'll give it another chance.

The PSP was kind of like that neat thing that I've been considering for the occasional good title, but now it's pretty much a must-have.

I knew this existed, but Atlus were playing mind-games about it being localized until now.

    I should've known better.

Well, at least that's when I'll finally grab Lumines and Valkyrie Profile.

Okay, there's a number of issues here

    1) I have had a DS since launch day, hence why I was the creator of like a dozen of the DS Megathreads
    2) I already own the GBA version
    3) The additions in the PSP version are obviously not in the GBA version
    4) Oddly enough, PSP games cannot be played on the DS

The only one I didn't like was Lina's, partially because her voice seemed to be drowned out by the background music.

Fuck yes. This is such awesome news. Serene better get an awesome voice because she was the best character. I will also not be playing the game anywhere in public when I get the bathing scenes. They were already pretty embarassing but with voices, I would feel like even more of a nerd.

You do know the bathing scenes are optional, right? You don't have to suffer through those emberassing moments.

Well I wouldn't call it suffering unless it was in public  And dual-language means that you can play with either japanese or english voices. They usually put it in there as a safety net from fans saying the english voices suck and to appease the elitists that refuse to have english voices in their japanese game.

Lacrima Castle ( http://www.lacrimacastle.net/ ) already has the new sprites and the new CGs. Not so much actual in-game screenshots (other than the CGs, obviously).

EDIT: Strangely, according to the site, the bathing scene CGs are not in the PSP version, but are somewhere on the UMD. Strange censorship there, I think.

Hmm... Rivera Hi-Def on the PSP? I may have to finish that one instead of my GBA version. Never did get very far in Riviera. The battle system annoyed me a bit, I could never seem to get good weapons, and TP always ended up wasted somehow. Though the rest of Riviera was good, it reminded me of a "Choose your own adventure" kinda story with a mediocre turn based battle system. I will certainly have to keep an eye out for the new ver that hopefully won't be $40, unless they include an artbook or some other bonus.

Bathing scene ? Don't be embarrassed, at least our version was censored. ;)

I believe it's censored in the PSP version as well though there was a rumor there'd be no such alterations. So depending on how much effort they put into it they might just leave it censored (like Celes' first scene in FFVI Advance) or not, who knows.

That said, Sting's later US released GBA game Yggdra Union has a bath scene that was actually UNcensored for the US release but censored for the Japanese release.

So it's pretty up in the air whether or not you'll be able to play this in public without feeling awkward. :P

Resurrecting this thread because RPGamer had an interview with Atlus on a few games on the 3rd and they talked about Riviera PSP. Here's the link and I'll copy-paste the Riviera part.
    RPGamer wrote:
Has anything been edited out of the game in its travels across the pond?

James: There are a bunch of new features that fans of the original title will enjoy. Improved graphics, fully-voiced sound in two languages, and new events and illustrations all add up to something special for fans to look forward to. Fully voiced dialogue is something very few games have done on the platform, and we have managed to cram in two languages! With Riviera having that anime-taste, Japanese dialogue should really catch a lot of fans' attention, along with the new events. Our biggest sell, though, has to be the new chapter; it's something that wasn't even in the Japanese PSP version!

Does this title include a brand new localization or is it basically the same as in the original?

James: In general, the localization is based off of the original, with some minor tweaking here and there. The added content is, of course, a brand new translation.

Has the game been updated graphically or audibly in any way other than adding voice acting?

James: The resolution on the PSP is higher, so naturally the already-beautiful backgrounds and character art are displayed in more detail. The battle effects have been totally reworked, too. Event illustrations have nearly doubled, and that adds a lot to the game. Sound-wise, a rearranged soundtrack has replaced the original. I know a lot of players loved the music of Riviera, and upgrading to CD-quality music means it is even better.

Can players use either the D-Pad OR the analog nub, or are players required to use either or the entire game?

James: It's directional buttons only. The nature of the game has no need for analog controls, or even diagonal movement, for that matter!

Also the site itself is up with ESRB rating. Partial nudity is mentioned so it looks like they've added in the bathing scenes that got taken out of the JP version. Whether that's good or bad, I leave it up to you to decide. I hope the new chapter isn't lame like the extra one in the GBA version. One easy boss fight isn't really all that spectacular.

If you own a PSP and a DS, the DS tends to outshine the PSP to a ridiculous extent.

I pick up my PSP every sixth months or so to play whatever great catch I find for cheap for a week, and then go back to my DS (which honestly doesn't get a ton of time from me either).

I generally play whatever game I got latest, regardless of system. If I pick up 3 good PSP games in a row (which I did earlier in the year, buying Killzone: Liberation, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Tekken: Dark Resurrection), my PS2 and Gamecube gather dust. The same thing happens when I pick up any new PS2, GC and PC games (and it'll happen when I pick up a DS soon too).

What is with the rereleasing GBA games on the PSP?

I mean, first they rerelease the Dawn of Souls versions of FF1 and FF2, and now Riviera. There might be others that I don't remember either (I'm not even counting the stuff that was on GBA that is included in various collections, like Sonic the Hedgehog, or Super Puzzle Fighter II)

While I do think the port of Riviera is weird, you really can't include FF1 and FF2 in that list. The GBA versions were ports of the PS1 versions, which themselves were ports of the NES originals. Sure they were ported to the GBA, but unless they're remakes (like FFIII on the DS), I'd still call them NES games. Calling them GBA games, is like calling Chrono Trigger a PS1 game, when in reality it's a SNES game that's been ported to the PS1.

Only thing is, Dawn of Souls has a further redone soundtrack and a good amount of extra content, both of which made ito the new release. Still, that is nitpicking, the overall point you make is correct. Also, they really, really, REALLY, should have put both on one UMD. FF will do ok sales, maybe, but II will have trouble selling any copies. It has a bad rep over here.
