I hate you, iTunes (Importing MP3s)?

Is there any way to correct iTunes' problem with doubling some MP3s it imports? I want to switch from using primarily Windows Media Player to iTunes, but when I try and copy everything to my iTunes library many files are doubled, some are tripled, and it's just very, very annoying to go through my entire collection and delete duplicates. iTunes' "find duplicates" feature is only kind of helpful because it'll catch things that are from LPs and live albums because they have the same title and alternative versions and things like that. I'm using 6.05 right now and I haven't upgraded to the next version quite yet because I assume it will be a big memory drain, but I'm willing to if it'll solve this problem.

Usually when this happens it's because there are playlist files mixed in with the mp3s and iTunes is loading both the files and a playlist that references the files.

Ooooo. That's a good idea. That's probably it. I'll try that. I'm excited.

Also you might want to check that you haven't got the option to copy files to your iTunes folder upon importing turned on.
