    no problem.

Otaku, additional driver updates and diagnostic utilities can be downloaded from here. Give me a sec and I'll try to find an update for your network card.

Alright, got the flash bios, now to run. Thanks guys.

Concerning the heat issue, how does a desk help any better?

A desk isn't soft and doesn't conform to the shape of the laptop. The lappy has small feet that slightly elevate it when sitting on solid surfaces; also it can sink into blankets and block the exhaust port on the back (or side, can't remember on your model).

A desk isn't soft, doesn't compact around the base of the computer, and it doesn't retain heat nearly as much as a blanket on a bed does.

Also, when using it at a desk I usually recommend a thin piece of wood (even a pencil or something if you don't have anything else - a thin novel works, too) to prop up the back slightly to allow even a little bit of ventilation.

Otaku, can you go to your system hardware manager and find out what type of network controller you are running?

also, as another little tip regarding laptops - don't close the lid while the machine is running for any length of time - lots of laptops vent a lot of their heat through the keyboard, which means that a lot of heat suddenly becomes trapped, right up against your screen. Not good.

    Cool.

Let it run. Reboot from time to time to see if the error is gone. It very well could be.

First boot on a BIOS update isn't always the best; it could've been a leftover hiccup.

the problem isn't likely to be the bios, but having it updated removes one possible vector for trouble.

Can you check to see what type of network card you are running?

Actually it was more of a double reboot running simultaneously, the first was running to remove some startup programs, second was to run the BIOS update since I apparently didn't have enough flash memory to run it at the time.

Rank - yeah, I can do that, just tell where I need to go to get that info.

    Druhim! Fuck!

Remember the SAT's? Think back, real hard. They were probably the SVT's back then, I don't think they had vowels yet.

Remember those comparison things they would have? Like "goat:mammal::Iguana:_____"? Right? Relationships, Dru. Relationships.

See, what I did was like "sweet things:sweet people::old things:________"

And then you're supposed to go "Well, let's see, sweet things, sweet people, so I guess old thing would go with old peo-hey, wait, oh Fram, you card."

But you went and fucked it up with your Alzheimer's! God dammit!

In 1901 they invented this test called the SAT, that had these "analogy" questions.

okay, right-click My Computer and click on properties. Click on the hardware tab and look at the graphic below to find the network card.

Right click on the network card, then look at the next graphic to find the driver version. Report back with the type of card and the network version. Thanks.

    Yeah it crashed twice again.

Same Driver error, but according to technical info, different .sys

Before it was cdrom.sys, this time atapi.sys

And the error didn't occur on reboot, just randomnly.

Thanks for all the help, but this shit is getting to be more trouble than it's worth. So fuck it, into the shop it goes.

At this time I think it is safe to say that it is a RAM issue.

There is an incredibly slight miniscule chance that it may be the IDE controller (due to cdrom.sys and atapi.sys) but it's doubtful.

It sounds like you have some bad RAM that is putting things where they don't belong.
