Okami - stuck in the Moon Cave

Arrrrgh Im stuck and I dont know what Im doing wrong

*Possible Spoilers*

Im in the moon cave, I've gotten all 4 ingredients, everyone is telling me to ring the bell, so Im slashing it 8 times with the Celestial brush but nothing is happening. Have I missed something? Am I not doing it right?
