NES open tournament golf on the 3DS...No local multi?

So I just downloaded the old school 8-bit golf game "nes open tournament golf" through the ambassador program for the 3DS. I chose a 2 player round to show my brother the game, however when it came time to play the 2nd player's turn, none of the controls seem to work.

Is there no local multiplayer using the same 3DS? Or am I missing something? Thanks.

    There is, but you have to switch to the 2nd controller. Hold down L+R and press Y.
