but then they immigrate here and find out that their qualifications aren't valid here, so they end up working as janitors

This is the most fucking retarded thing

There must be some kind of discrimination going on if they can do everything to get in but get stonewalled at being hired

Why would they have even been accepted if their qualifications weren't valid?!

It's because the federal government recognizes the local certifications for the purposes of meeting the immigration threshold, but the provincial society of engineers or physicians college is under no obligation to do the same, and mostly chooses not to for a variety of reasons

One of the biggest being that the fewer doctors and engineers there are, the more they can charge for their services, and fight anything that threatens their bottom line by whining about "a shortage of doctors".

    Perhaps.

I think it's legitimate to question whether or not the curriculum at Bangalore Upstate Brainology Clinic is consistent with the pedagogical approach and practical requirements of the degrees issued under the aegis of $PROVINCIAL REGULATORY BODY.

Now maybe there needs to be some kind of reduced-cost, 1 year evaluation and re-certification course. And Immigration Canada absolutely needs to be more upfront about the challenges in becoming a professional in this country with foreign training. But it's not nearly as simply as "it's just greed, all they have to do is say yes to these guys"

I'm not one to complain about service, but our waitress did not give a single solitary fuck

It's a little off the beaten, so you'll probably never accidentally wind up there, but honestly despite all the amazing restaurants, there are only two reasons to schlep out to queens on the N train:
    Dutch Kills Bar
    Astoria Beer Garden

I've got two happy hours next week, but the week after I'm free Monday-Tuesday for Trinity

I would say Indiana Jones' theme song is in my top movie themes with Star Wars and Stargate. Some movies just have awesome theme songs.

Want to add ID4 to this list as well.

Terror mission popped up, last one for the night

It went well, mostly because I didn't go in with the bravado I normally do that tends to get dudes killed

Good number of civvies got killed though, could have avoided that by rushing in I think

Still, good stuff! Two whole gas stations got blown up by misfires just to take out a single alien, an ethereal in one and a big orange frog looking thing called a reaper in the other

    Killcount:
Cass: 3 (One sectoid, ethereal, and reaper)
    ChocoKinesis: 1 (Ethereal)
    Elldren: 1 (Sectoid)
Jacobkosh: 6 (Two sectoids, three ethereals, one reaper)
Pony: 3 (Two sectoids, one ethereal)
    Lady Pony: 1 (Ethereal)
simonwolf: 3 (Two ethereals, one reaper)
    South host: 1 (Reaper)

    watching Last Crusade again

it's like night and day to Crystal Skulls

in the space of like 2 minutes an entire gang of villains with distinct personalities is introduced and explored, and the Fedora guy is even made into a kind of charming anti-hero, and then the entire thing is linked across two decades by nothing more than a distinct style of dress to a "present day" triumph of Indy over a long-standing foe who had just been introduced 30 seconds before

I assume this is mostly Tom Stoppard at work; like Kasdan with Raiders, Last Crusade just seems much, much better constructed than the other two

I didn't say it was just greed, but short-sighted protection of their members' livelihood is a factor, I think. And yes, questioning the curriculum is fine, but how many actually have their credentials accepted, even with conditions?

It amazes when I look back now how much Batman:TAS, Superman:TAS and the X-Men cartoon in the early 90's has affected my likes especially with certain comics.

It's impossible to answer that question, as it varies both by professional certification and by province

Like the contrast to Superman:TAS opening, which is also obviously influenced from the movie theme but is so heroic to Batman's dark sinister sound.
