My first non-generic mouse that I ever used is this Razer Abyssus I have here by my side. It has served me way, though I now kind of wish I'd gotten a mouse with thumb buttons, but as a small foray into mice for gaming, it did its job. Unfortunately, the mousewheel is now broken. While it performs its current basic duties of pointing and clicking perfectly, without the mousewheel...well, it just isn't the same. And so I am now looking for a replacement.
Any recommendations?

The IntelliMouse is optical and the SideWinder is laser. No idea what their pros and cons are.
They're both 5 button, but the IntelliMouse has both of the extras on the thumb side and the SideWinder has one on each side. I think I like the IntelliMouse placement better since I'm a righty, but the SideWinder also has 3 on-the-fly dpi adjustment buttons. But as I've never had on-the-fly dpi adjustment before I have no idea how useful that feature is in practice.
The IntelliMouse seems thinner, which I think would be better for me since I use a claw grip (although the SideWinder doesn't seem like it would be exceedingly fat like the Logitech seem to be).
And what's the deal with the IntelliMouse 4.0 being half the price as the 3.0?

If you don't hate wires like me, you could save money by getting what are essentially their wired counterparts: The R.A.T. 7 or the Deathadder.
