New Girl - The Show You Should Be Watching Or I Will Kill You
So, New Girl. Starting September 20th (that's a Tuesday). Starring Zooey Deschanel.
This show is hilarious and you need to watch it. The pilot is available through Comcast On Demand and is probably viewable elsewhere, but I am too lazy to figure it out. The premise is that Jess (Deschanel) has broken up with her boyfriend after he cheated on her and is seeking to rebuild her life, starting by procuring a new apartment with three other guys. Think Three's Company as written by Tina Fey.
Deschanel is fantastic, and the rest of the cast is entertaining enough. The show definitely holds potential, and if it fails I blame you for not watching it hard enough. Yes, you, right there. You bastard.
Pretend I put in a bunch of photos of the cast or whatever and that this is not a lazy, crappy thread.

Emily shall always be the superior Deschanel sister, but there is a void that Traffic Light's cancellation left in my soul and maybe this will be the sitcom to plug it.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
I saw a commercial for this ages ago and forgot about it.
I have to say, I kinda dig it. Needs to pick up some speed a little bit to form a whole opinion, but it's Zooey.
What time is it? The time of my life

I like Zooey. It would be very cool if this show turned out good.
I watched the pilot and I don't currently have a reason to think it actually will be good, though. Didn't think many of the jokes were funny, it kinda feels like they're trying too hard. Which doesn't sound fair, I just don't know how else to describe it right now.
Edit: Let me expand on that. I think they're trying too hard to be "funny" without really selling the premise and characters. That wouldn't normally put me off a pilot episode really, if it weren't for the fact that they made me want to put funny in quotes. I'm getting a big wiff of LOOK HOW QUIRKY off of it. Jeffe, you invoke Tina Fey, but these people don't really seem to grasp what makes her writing funny.
Anyway, that's just where I'm at with it right now, I'm not gonna completely judge the thing just on the pilot. I'll give it a few episodes to correct.
I thought this show was really terrible. Full disclosure, I don't think either of the sisters are attractive.
I didn't feel like the show was even about the "new girl." It just felt like each scene was some sort of vehicle for schmidt (Max Greenfield) to be sexist in some way. Then you've got Coach, who I thought had a couple good jokes, and then the other male character who wasn't really funny or interesting or enough of a foil to temper schmidt's offensiveness.
I probably wont be checking out any other episodes.
Just watched the pilot on Hulu, I really liked it. This was originally something that I didn't think much of when I first saw the promos, but the more I saw the more gradually excited I got. It just seemes they put together a fairly competent comedic cast for this show.
I love the Douchbag jar btw, every young man's houshold should contain one to weed that behavior out of him.
If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.
I watched the trailer, and I found it very very hard to believe in Zooey (jesusfuckisthatreallyhowshespellsit?) Deschanel as a loser who gets cheated on and then is all tragic and needy.
It was about as convincing as Rachel Leigh Cook in She's All That being a dorky loser.

Pretty much my feeling on it. That and the 'tried too hard thing'.
Wish the show all the best though, I don't like Two and a Half Men, or Big Bang Theory, or How I Met Your Mother, and look how those are doing!

I heard they're replacing Wayans because Happy Endings got picked up, but I "heard" it on a Hulu discussion post. It would seem hard for him to work two shows at once, so I imagine it's true.
It was pretty decent for a pilot. I'll give it a shot, but something just felt off about it. We'll see if that feeling goes away once they start honing the writing. Losing Wayans won't help, though. I like him.
... I thought this was the line for getting peed on by Zooey Deschanel. No wonder I was first in line
Everyone has to choose one line or the other.
You chose... poorly.
If it's a choice between being peed on by Zooey Deschanel or YOU, I think everyone here would choose Zooey Deschanel. It's kind of ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
Even though I generally like things that Zooey Deschanel is in, I have the same problem with her that I have with James Franco. There is a quality to their voice that always makes them sound like someone trying too hard to act.
I would totally let her pee on me. Not even a question. If I got a phone call from Zooey Deschanel right now saying I won the Annual Zooey Deschanel Fan Peeing Contest I'd be like where and when.

I have read the same things. The way I understand it is that Wayans did the New Girl pilot as a kinda safety in case Happy Endings didn't get picked up, and his contract stipulated as such, so when that show got picked up, he had to drop out of New Girl. The weird thing is that they still show him in the promos.
Show was alright, I can see it getting better over time, and I do like the chemistry between the three male leads and Zooey.
This show was pretty bad. Everything is really forced and literally any moment worth a damn in the ENTIRE pilot episode has been shown in commercials.
Deschanel is typecast as a girl who's meant to be quirky because she says she's quirky and does goofy dances from time to time. All the characters are paper thin archetypes and the whole thing feels rushed. It's as though a group of marketers formulated the concept and pushed it through production as fast as humanly possible without bothering to spend much time on pesky things like writing.
I was trying to talk about this show with some friends a couple weeks ago, but couldn't remember much about it except it had Zooey and Wayans in it. My friend finally picked up on what I was talking about and made fun of me, telling me that not all black people are Wayans.
Apparently I had seen the original promo materials/commercials and he had caught one of the more recent ones, with the replacement dude. I finally saw one of the replacement dude commercials and narrowly resisted the urge to gloat (I was totally right, it indeed was Wayans--they just switched him out late).
