    Really? Odd.

Oregon and New Jersey are the only two states that have mini-serve gas. However, it doesn't affect gas prices at all, you do not tip, it provides for pretty good employment (Costco gas attendants top out at over 20 bucks an hour), and it's nice in the rainy/cold time of year when you don't want to get out of your car.

Both Portland and Seattle always struck me as sort of, I don't know- insular? parochial? People out there seem incredibly touchy about any perceived slights about their home cities.

And there's a notable lack of racial and cultural diversity, if that makes a difference to you. Portland and Seattle are two of the whitest cities in two of the whitest states.

Oregon and Washington aren't that white; Oregon is 16th in whiteness, and Washington is dead-center at 25th. Portland is substantially whiter than Seattle, though, and pretty goddamn white in general (not that Seattle is super-diverse, either).

for me its not about the price, its the fact that it takes forever for them to come pump your gas. after living in CA and PA after NJ, it annoys me to no end having to wait for the attendant to do something that will take me less than a minute

Seattle actually has the most diverse zip code in the entire country, 98118. It's just that the rest of the city is lily-white.

Seattle isn't that white. I'm not saying it's the most diverse place in America, but look at the Midwest or, indeed, no further than eastern Washington and eastern Oregon if you want to see a staggering lack of diversity.

I live in Seattle and have only visited Portland once or twice, for short periods of times. The public transportation system is pretty good in Seattle. (Haven't taken it in Portland, so I can't compare.) Both cities are very very green. Seattle recycles/composts something like 60% of their waste.

I have heard Portland is better than Seattle for bicycling.

It's definitely not. Go hang out in the Central District for a bit.

    Definitely this.

Seattle has a huge Asian community, which maybe isn't something people consider when they are thinking about racial diversity in America.

Portland is beautiful in the summer. Summer is a 2-3 week period that happens at random between June and September. Any given summer day can turn out to be a monsoon, so you can't assume that just because today was 90 degrees, tomorrow won't be 60 degrees and pouring rain.
The rest of the year is grey. There is a 50% chance any given year will have a 1-2 day snow period that will completely fuck everyone up. Otherwise it will either be raining or threatening to rain at all times.
If you're still thinking of moving to Portland, go take a 4 month shower. If you're still enthusiastic, more power to you.

This is a little exaggerated. While there are basically two seasons (Summer and Rain), Summer lasts quite a bit longer (3-4 months) and it generally rains very little during it.

Except this year for some reason where Summer was basically just the month of August, with a few days scattered in June and July.

I'm assuming you mean that Summer has to be 80+ degrees everyday? It was mild and pleasant and fairly abnormal for Portland Summers.

Yeah the halfhearted summer we got up here in Seattle was probably my favorite summer in the past few years. If you would describe your favorite weather as "mild", chances are you belong in beautiful Cascadia.

Yeah, after last year's Summer (a bunch of 100+ days) I was more than happy with the weather recently.

None of the anti-Portland sentiments expressed by Darkwolfe are accurate, just FYI.

    Nothing. Matters.
