The way I would do a "communist" game is to have a non-player create the game in handtracker, shuffle up the decks, and handle the permissions. That way, everyone can still only see what they are supposed to (the game creator can see the decks and all draws, otherwise).
The unofficial game here is doing a shared account on the board site, already. As long as you post the board to a thread every few moves, that part should work fine.

Yeah, I think in my head I was thinking of just setting up a disposable Dropbox account to do the image hosting. The web interface for dropbox is pretty hassle free so that way all the bits of the updates could be done by anybody with a few free moments and a pc.

Did not know that about the hand tracker thing though. That would be an issue but only for set up I guess. I was figuring the Old World deck would be safe since all actions are logged but if the game administrator can everything that isn't so good.

I was withholding judgment on the balance of the new set until I had played a few more games.

But I'm growing a more certain, especially given the BGG stats thread, that Khorne is a little too powerful, and Nurgle and the Horned Rat a little underpowered.

Hopefully it will fix itself with the metabalance without being too nuts, though.

We had an IRL Morrslieb game at my house this weekend, and Nurgle managed to come out on top. My observations:

    1) Infested Colony is better than it looks at first.
    2) Choking Stench is way more effective if you manage to pair it with Ultimate Plague.

Would anyone be willing to take over Tzeentch to finish out game 53?

  • FunkyWaltDoggFunkyWaltDogg Columbia, SCRegistered User regular
Sweet! If you could make a Handtracker account (unless you're registered under another name), I'll give you permissions over Tzeentch's hand.

  • FunkyWaltDoggFunkyWaltDogg Columbia, SCRegistered User regular
    And we're all set. Thanks!

There is a moderately high likelihood that 38thDoe will still be too busy, putting you into the game. Don't lose hope!

  • DevoutlyApatheticDevoutlyApathetic Registered User regular
    I shall hope fiercely!

Though mostly it's about varying the fellow players in a game. I like seeing how different people play.

To reassure certain pesky players, I'll probably start a game up after who is and isn't in yours becomes fixed.

Seriously though, if anyone wants to start tweaking or adding features I'm happy to pull in new work. I want to do more work on it, but right now everything seems to be Good Enough so I'm not very motivated.

Now that I've already spent a couple hours on it...how would you feel about an upgrade to Rails 3?

Is somebody willing to set up the cards for a private game me and my friends want to play? I'm going to try out this communal update thing and should be able to deal with everything else but I (obviously) shouldn't see the deck contents.

    Details:
    Game Name: Socialism

Base Set, Standard Old World Deck:
    Khorne: Ralikai
    Nurgle: Cskinner99
    Tzeetch: DevoutlyApathetic
    Slaanesh: AberrantTemplar

Everybody but me is right down at the bottom of the list except for Jdarksun. I should be able to draw from the Old World and Ruination Deck.

    I can do it, DA.

Edit: Done. Permissions set as per normal game (only I can shuffle the decks, each player can draw to hand from their own) except that everyone has permission to draw from the Old World deck.
All the decks have been shuffled, ready to go.

Excellent! I'll definitely take a look at that when I can.

There was a recent handtracker issue, which seems to have resulted from lack of clear instructions.

So, I offer a quick overview of how to use handtracker:
Handtracker is a web app developed by admanb to keep track of players' hands during a forum board game. Each player or team of players needs their own account on the service; at this time, the passwords are not stored securely, so you should definitely not reuse passwords from other sites.

Once registered and logged in, you will see a list of the games you are hosting, then the games you are playing in, then the decks (Templates) you created, then a list of public decks.

To create a new game, click the "new game" link, name the game, choose the first deck, and click "Create". This will take you to the main page for the game, with you in the player list as host. (The host is the administrator of the game; they are able to see all actions and to view the order of cards in the decks.)

Next, use the "add deck" link to load any additional decks needed for the game; click the link, choose the deck, click add. At the moment, that will bring you to an Error screen; ignore it, click back, then repeat for the rest of the decks. When you are done, click back again to get back to the game.

Then, you need to set up permissions; for CitOW, I give each player permission to "draw to hand" for their own deck. As host, I let myself "shuffle" for all decks and "draw" from the Old World deck.

Finally, make sure you shuffle each deck before letting the players draw. From the main page for the game, click the "show/hide" link for each deck, then click to shuffle. While the game is in progress, I like to note the number of cards each player has in their hand and left in the deck each round, so I can tell if anything isn't happening the way it should.

After the game ends, you can delete it from the main page (after login) so that it doesn't continue to show up on the home page for yourself and your players.

On occasion, you may find yourself needing to replace a player in the midst of a game, grabbing the old player's hand. Here's how you do it:

    1. From the main page for the game, click the radio button next to the player who will be replaced
    2. Select the new player from the drop-down menu
    3. Click the "add or replace player" button

That should bring a new player into the game with the original player's hand. I'm not sure whether all their permissions also inherit, but they should. I know I've done this in the past and had it work.

FWD, can you add this to your 3rd post in this thread, along with the instructions for the board app? You can spoiler them with a large header, if you want.

So Base Set question: Persistence of Change doesn't trigger off of peasant kills, right? This is my assumption but the wording is a bit different from Khorne's wording.

    Correct.

DA, I've added you to the hosts list in the second post and also promoted you to an official host at AppliedNerditry.

    Ooo....I feel so special.

Just for record keeping, I took the top two from the main list, the one plus one that would be on the newbie list and one from the hosts list.

When I reviewed the welcome PM I did come up with a question, what are those player sheets you were mentioning? The list of cards I recall you had as a google doc from way back when?

    Nod. Get treat. PSN: Quippish
  • DarianDarian Yellow Wizard The PitRegistered User regular
Yup. I've got two versions of the google-docs, one for regular and one for Morrslieb. Since the cards are all viewable at the start page on handtracker, very few people ask for them these days, but they are available if desired.

I still find the google docs useful for the dial bonuses, if nothing else.
