Disabling drafts

Can the admins disable the ajax draft saving for some time to reduce server load. Maybe try it for a while.

Or are access errors not caused by traffic?

There's a thread on disabling drafts in the Vanilla Forum... forum.

    This
Sorry, we're not going to be wasting productivity on toggles for features that you can simply ignore if they bother you.

seems to be the official word, which kinda sucks, since they're a pain in the ass.

I dont think the op is talking about us individually/personally being able to disable drafts.

I think the OP is hinting that the whole draft system is causing the forums load issues or performance issues and that the admins should be able to disable automatic saving of drafts across the entire userbase to give the servers some breathing room during high load.

Yes, and that would require them to waste productivity on adding that as an option for us.

It's entirely possible to do this via an extension (and maybe a user script...maybe...), and I have already done so for Chrome.

But I don't think the OP wants it to be optional for users, I think he's suggesting it be turned off completely, in the hopes that doing so will help to alleviate the recent server/forum troubles, which surely wouldn't take many resources?

Unless it's not actually optional at the forum admin level, and would thus require actual coding / patching from Vanilla to make that possible.

Yeah, for some reason I read Draygo's post and missed the "don't" in the first sentence

I think it's more likely that the notifications and signatures were causing much more load on the server than drafts are, and Vanilla is in a much better position than we are to identify where the bottlenecks are. Given the fact that the board has been running smoothly all day (at least for me) I have a hunch that they figured out where the problem lies.

It had nothing to do with the drafts system. Please don't speculate on things you have no knowledge of, I hate chinese whispers.

Please point out where I did so, because nowhere did I say it was because of the drafts. To quote what I actually said:

Nowhere did I say that the drafts were causing it. I did say that "it's more likely that the notifications and signatures were causing much more load on the server than drafts are", and considering that the notifications and signatures are disabled forum-wide and the drafts are not, that is a pretty reasonable statement.

My apologies, it's late here. I'd still prefer it if people kept the speculation to a minimum.
