You're gross
No. The title of this thread is an accurate description of the game. I'm not gross, talk to Team Meat. Also MC Paul Barman.

Did you say TEAM MEAT?! OMG
Yeah, but just to get your attention. This game is actually made by Edmund McMillen who is half of team meat. The better half.

Enough with the lies already. What is this game?
Recipe for The Binding of Isaac:
Add:
1 part roguelike
1 part bullet-hell shooter
1 part Zelda (the original, none of this Ocarina shit)
Mix thoroughly with poop, blood, and fetuses.
Serve with nightmares.
Feeds one single-player.

Shut-up you're not clever I want to see with my EYEBALLS
Here, looky loo.
Gameplay/Official Trailer

Fine, I'm sold. Where do I buy this monstrosity?
--> STEAM <--
It is five bucks. Buy it and be the happiest you've ever been while wearing your mom's undies.

A'ight I bought it. Uhh what do these pills do?
I'm not telling you, jerkbutt. This game is about dying, learning from your mistakes, and trying again. I will leave it to other people to rob you of the pleasure of self discovery. That said, a deal with the devil is never a good long term plan for happiness. But you should know that already.

Ok but really, it said something appeared in the basement. So what?
That means a new item is added to the random drop loot table. There is a chance you can find it during your next run-through.

I am a miserable person and want everything explained to me by people who have a tenuous grasp of the English language.
Fine. But please, use spoiler tags in general discussion.

I have choppy frames, Waaaah! Waaaaah!
Put the settings on low. Also ask your mom to upgrade her Gateway computer. Also maybe wait for a patch because it looks like this a general problem people are having. Sorry bro.

I think that maybe you should mention team meat in the title, even though it's only made by 1/2 of the team in reality. Maybe name drop SMB?

Edmund posted a 20 minute playthrough of the games beginning on his blog. http://edmundmcmillen.blogspot.com/2011/09/1-day-away.html

Boy I was pumped for this games release near the start of Sept, like they said. Now not so much.

I really should have screencapped the heart item that just looks like a pair of red testicles hanging from your chin...

Should I be surprised the the furthest I got was because I had a robot eye as my first item?

  • CorpekataCorpekata Registered User regular
1st death I got the lemonade, the vampire bat, coat hanger, health pill, gas pill, 9 lives cat (but I traded 2 permanent heart containers for it, blarg), skeleton key (gives you 99 keys) and a few health up powers ups. I also got a bomb called Mr Boom or something but as I was about to use it the first time is where I failed.

Amusing game. Kinda runs like ass though, figured it'd be smoother on my laptop than it is.

The game is optimized like ass. Have fun beating mom since a lot of enemies are spawning and shooting at you, causing loads of slowdown.

It's fun and only five bucks, but it needs a patch.

Holy crap the magnet is awesome. Just pulls items to me across rocks and pits.

That, coupled with the Vampire mark that heals sometimes when I get a kill is probably why I actually made it to the Caves.

EDIT: And I just got the Inner Eye (the Triple Shot) from the store. :D

EDIT: And that was a pack of 10 bombs. D:

Tip for people perplexed by the gaps that are uncrossable. If you blow up a rock at an angle that faces a gap, the rock will fill in that gap so you'll be able to cross.

    So like this: (b=bomb, r-rock, g=gap,i=item)

    BRGI

The rock will fill in the gap and let you get the item.

  • CorpekataCorpekata Registered User regular
Also, looked at the forums and my own computer, it's using up a lot of CPU anytime I move in to a new room or there's lots of bullets, and other people reporting the same issue. So hopefully it'll get fixed soon, is putting me off diving in to it a bit more.

Heh, nice. Just found the "Steam Sale". Didn't seem to say what it did, but I think it made all the items in the stores cheaper.

Found a Skeleton Key in a arena battle, too, which gave 99 keys.

Didn't make it through the Depths, though. (whatever the next-to-last stage was called) Got stomped by those damn things that look like they're shooting lasers out of a butt.

Heh. Apparently I just made a demonic pact for a large damage upgrade. No way that's going to bite me in the ass later. Especially since my skin's now all black.

And I shoot lasers out of my eyes.

EDIT: It totally did, since to do the pact it converts two of your hearts into silver, temp ones. And then I used the Emperor card, which teleports you directly to the boss.

Apparently doing so makes you lose any temp hearts you have.

EDIT 2: And now I had it crash, and when I booted it up again I lost all my progress. D:

Yeah I had to turn things to medium to keep the framerate smooth. Not ideal especially for a flash game...

I wouldn't say it's a knock on quality though (especially for $5). I'd be surprised if we didn't see a lot of patches in the next few days as they get hardware reports and whatnot. Meatboy had great support and I assume we'll see the same here as issues pop up

I got the skeleton key (99keys), then got the bomb is key item (makes your keys bombs and your bombs keys).

As a result I found out there are a ton of hidden rooms.

Then I got to mother, got knocked through the floor, and bugged out. I was invisible, invincible, and stuck somewhere on the bottom row. I could still use bombs, but not my normal attack.... unfortunately I ran out of bombs with mother at 5% hp. :? I probably would have been screwed anyway, I'm sure there would have been an item/door I needed to get to.

That said, this game is addicting and totally worth $5.

Any ideas on how to get past the caves?

I think I found the formula for secret rooms. Excuse the bad ASCII, X means empty, U is rooms and O would be the secret. Ready? Go!
    XXUUUU
    XUOUXU
    UUUUXU

The secret would be between the four Us spread out in a cross patern. Bomb a wall facing where you would suspect the secret to be. Usually its just pennies but sometimes you can find an actual item.

As for Hell rooms, theese are the most powerfull items BUT buying them costs 1-2 hearts. I only seen them pop up after you beat a boss. If one comes up, be sure to buy one of the items depending on how many hearts you can spare to spend. Dont be an idiot and waste all your hearts, if so the purchase owuld be for nothing.

The Devil Rooms can be anywere, not just after a boss. There are some items that will teleport you to them as well. And you actually can spend all your hearts if you have an Armour Heart currently. You just won't be able to heal.

Well, heart containers are about a 60% chance to get from a boss and the Devil upgrades are RIDICULOUSLY powerful. I say it's almost a must take unless you're going for the 7 heart container character unlock.

I dunno, it started out buggy but cleaned up really fast. Plus, it *did* get more content than the console version due to Super Meat World.

Anyway. Found a 1up, and accidentally wasted it by dying at the last second on MonstroII. Apparently it teleports you out of the room you died in, and restores your health fully.

Sadly, when it does so, if you were fighting a boss you have to start over.

At least that run had me unlock Maggy. Looks to start with more hearts, but is slower, and has a X ability called "Yum Hearts." Special item that lets her heal a heart every so often since it recharges.

The Steam version outsold the XLBA version and the whole experience with Microsoft caused Team Meat to dedicate themselves more to PC.

Seriously. They added unique characters, a level portal and a level editor. It's infinitely more replayable than the XBLA version. Some people are never going to be happy I guess.

Best part is the appearance change. Isaac is no longer crying, and looks happy, and when he's "peeing" he looks so relieved.

alright this game is so much fun... and I still can't get through the depths. Also not realizing what deals with the devil did, I got one, then the other right next to it killing myself. Now my own worst enemy is me. I could have finally beat it on that run since I beat the boss there.

Oh, hey, a "creative use of game mechanics."

Requires the X-Ray Specs, which lets you see & enter secret passages all the time.

Go through to a secret room, and then come out of the secret room into a room that has enemies and hasn't been cleared yet. Exit and re-enter until you have a special enemy in there that drops items. Kill it, grab the item, but leave one of the other enemies alive. Leave and then re-enter so that it resets until another enemy that drops stuff shows up.

While not quick, and always a bit dangerous of accidentally taking damage, it could let you stock up a couple keys and bombs if you're low or out.
