How to use Fraps

I'm having issues with it only recording segments of the footage instead of one long video, I have no idea how to fix that. I also can't get it to record Audiosurf or Beat Hazard properly, are there some settings for Fraps that I can adjust to get it to record correctly?

Can't really afford to purchase another recording program right now. It records Audiosurf and Beat Hazard, the video just ends up lagging. I've tried messing with the frame rates but it doesn't really seem to be working. It is the worst with Beat Hazard though, the video will stop for a few seconds. Mostly I just want to fix the problem with it recording in segments, I really hate that it does that and I have no clue how to fix it. The Fraps FAQ and Help section aren't very helpful at all.

If I remember correctly, Fraps always records in segments, to avoid getting 20 gig sized files. Although 20 seperate 2 gig sized files doesn't make a difference.

It records to an older standard of the AVI container, which uses a 32-bit file header, and consequently means the maximum file size it can record without splitting is 4 GiB. I guess it also has the side effect of making it work if you happen to record onto a FAT32 partition, which has the same limit at the filesystem level, but lolfat32.

Every time I see this thread, I always give the same response: VirtualDub.
Try lowering the resolution and effects in the game.
Fraps has an overlay while recording that should tell you whether or not you're lagging. Set it to 30fps or whatever and hit record. If it goes below 30 and starts to slow down, then your video will by slow after. If you have a second hdd then record to that (or whichever one you're not running the game from).
It will always record in segments, but since you're going to be processing the files after anyway that shouldn't be a problem. If you record in a lower resolution then the amount of video in each segment will increase.

Fraps seems to have trouble recognizing some games. Although Audiosurf shouldn't be one of them. I've recorded Audiosurf with fraps before.
Do try out playclaw, though. You might be pleasantly surprised.

What framerates have you tried, and are you recording full size or half size?
Are you recording to a different drive than the one you're playing the game from?
edit: oh, it's a container limitation? Even worse. Old legacy junk.
