XBMC, random video playlist help

I normally have a bunch of tv episodes ripped from my DVD's that I like to leave running in the background as white noise/semi watch while doing things around the house. I usually just have a playlist that goes randomly through these episodes.

I recently installed XBMC in order to get a nicer feel to my HTPC, but I am having major issues with what I would expect a simple feature in any media player to have.

I can make a smart playlist to pick up exactly what I want to watch. I just cant have that playlist play continously, and at random. I feel like the biggest idiot in the universe, because I google this problem, other people have it, and generally the answer I see is "suck it up jackass" or no answer at all like this isnt a feature wanted. The only thing I can figure out is maybe it does this already but I am doing something wrong and am going about it the wrong way. I think I got it playing continuously once, but it would not do a random order. And I can shuffle the list, but I still have to manually tell it to play the next file? It doesn't make any sense.

Is there a way to just hit a button on my smartplaylist, and have it go until I hit something for it to stop?

Just a quick FYI, I followed a bunch of tutorials to try to use "party mode" for this, but it just sits at filling glasses and stops, which I have seen as a common problem from google. So I think thats a dead end.

edit: Ok.... I have a playlist playing again, but I cannot get it shuffled, or to go randomly through the playlist
