Monitor died?

Hey guys,

Over the past couple months, my Samsung SyncMaster 204B has had issues. It would take forever for the screen to turn on when i booted up (probably 5 minutes) and even after turning on the screen would be very dark for a while until it seemed to warm up.

Well I've been leaving my PC on most of the time to help alleviate the issue until I could get a new monitor. Today though, when I got home, I find that the monitor no longer works. The power button blinks (not the slow blink where it can't find a signal...it's a fast blink). And every time it blinks I can hear this slight, high pitched noise.

Google seems to indicate a capacitor needs to be replaced, but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this issue before I went that route.

Thanks guys.

bah!! I jinxed you! I just got my Smasung Syncmaster B2430 in not 2 days ago ^o^ I hope I don't lose any resistors 0.o Did you find out how to replace it yourself or are you takin' it to specialists?

I could replace it myself if I wanted. I found a couple guides online. But for now I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this issue and knows a way of fixing it that doesn't require an actual repair.

I'm about to buy a new monitor and build a new pc...so it's not the biggest deal in the world..but it would have been nice to keep the second for dual screens.

Honestly, that sounds like our very old CRT TV as its picture tube finally started to die after something like 15 years of use. That's kind of distressing since it's an LCD monitor! My family personally has two relatively similar SyncMasters that have been in use for a couple years now, and I don't think either takes more than like... 15 seconds to turn on when we hit the power button. In fact, 15 seconds would be generous. Sorry, I'm pretty sure you need to replace something if you're going to fix the problem... It really sounds like it just died. If it looks like it's something you can fix, go for it, but yeah, I don't think this is something that can be fixed if you don't take it apart.
