I know there's already a Western Animation thread, but since these classic shorts are so rarely talked about, I thought them deserving of a thread of there own. In the last hundred years of American history, there has been two series that define classic animation, Looney Tunes, featuring WB's cast of hairballs, and these guys, the stars of Disney's various animated shorts and specials.
These is of course the legendary Mickey Mouse, along with his friends Goofy and Donald, his girl Minnie, and his dog Pluto. Along with perennial nemesis Pete (who started out as a cat, but was later changed into a dog).
One of my favorite types of Disney shorts was Goofy's "how-to" shorts. like this one.

Another was the criminally underused and underappreciated Three Caballeros.

(by the way, when Panchito says "gay" he doesn't mean it that way)
What about you guys? What do you remember about these old cartoons?
EDIT: Also, it would be criminal of me to not show you guys this, The Lion King fans in the room should really like it.

Marching and Heiling.
Disney made another anti-nazi cartoon, though this one was more funny, than informative and shocking.

The Gaston song from Beauty and the Beast wins hands down for best Disney song.
YES! Those were always my favorite. The basketball and fishing ones, too. It's like there was some universe populated entirely by Goofies.

Get with it.
Edit: Or does this not count because it's not technically a cartoon?
I Wanna Be Like You is one of the best Disney songs. Or at least it would be if it wasn't so racist!

No, Claymation is fine.

edit: While we're on the subject, I always thought The Nightmare Before Christmas got way more love and attention than it deserves. I love the world and the visuals they create, but the story doesn't really grab me at all and most of the lyrics strike me as pretty weak. Catchy, though.
His films sure look cool though!
Wow. You're like my nemesis. I disagree with every single opinion you have. It's like your my opposite in every way.
I only read a little bit of Coraline: the book, but what struck me was that the titular character really felt like an actual 11 year old girl. When you read the book you're like “okay this is clearly written by somebody with daughters.” Movie-Coraline doesn't compare. There's this part in the book I liked where Coraline doesn't like what her father made for dinner, so she goes and pops a frozen dinner into the microwave. I don't mind that that specific moment wasn't in the film, the problem is there are no moments in the movie that feel that real.
To be clear I think Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas are good films! They just aren't Pixar or classic-Disney quality.
(On the other hand, I rewatched James and The Giant Peach for the first time since I was a kid recently, and I don't think that one holds up. In large part because the songs suck. I like some of Randy Newman's work – I'll cut anyone that says You've Got a Friend in Me is a bad song. And his score for Toy Story 3 is really good! And so is the Monk theme! But he dropped the ball with James and the Giant Peach.)
See, again, I disagree. Coraline, like most of Gaiman's work, is just the barest sketch of a character. Most of his characters are, and that's fine within the confines of his stories, but she wasn't a real 11 year old, she wasn't a real anything. She was just a name. The movie Coraline was way more developed. She wasn't lovable perse, but she was feisty and interesting. Also, it's hard to like Jack in Nightmare because he's so obtuse. But it's easy to love Sally and really feel for her. There is a lot of emotion there.

Yes, it's every bit as awesome as the name implies. And yes, in the preview image he's using a chainsaw.
