PS3 won't boot after disassembly

So I think I broke my PS3. I opened it up to replace the thermal paste and the fan since the thing has sounded like a jet engine lately. I followed some guides, disassembled it, replaced the old thermal paste and fan. Reassembled it (mostly, I didn't close up the case completely just in case it didn't work) and tried to turn it on. Nothing, no red light, no sound, no response. I've disassembled and reassembled everything with no luck.

Anyone here have any experience with PS3 maintenance? I'm think worst case scenario I somehow shorted the motherboard, no idea how, I was very careful not to get any thermal paste on the board. Best case scenario I'm missing something small that keeps the entire system from booting.

Yup, checked and double check. Just bought a voltage detector today. I'm seeing power go into the power supply and not come out so I assume something is up with the power supply and not the motherboard.

Don't know how the power supply would break, maybe something jostled loose when I disassembled the machine. Going to try replacing the power supply and see if that fixes it.

Replaced the power supply, that didn't fix it. Replacing the power ribbon did.

Ironically the system is now twice as loud so obviously I screwed up something.

If it is twice as loud you may have put the thermal paste on wrong or reinstalled the heatsink incorrectly, causing the processor to get hotter which will make the fan spin faster and louder.

Yeah I just tried reapplying the thermal paste but I'm getting the same results. Of course everyone and their mother seems to have a different thermal paste application method.

I tried tinting + line first and my latest application is the pea method, based on this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eytRmdhl4oc.

I am having the worst luck with this stuff.

Turns out it was the replacement fan I bought, it's speed sending must have been broken.

After about $100 my PS3 is now quieter. Not as quiet as I was hoping for, but it's less noticeable when watching Netflix.
