I remember this place called "Mr. Arcade", you payed a flat rate, and all the games were set to freeplay.
House of the Dead with akimbo pistols? AWWWW YEEEEAHHHH!
Man, my kingdom for a good arcade. You can never find one nowadays.
I spent a good chunk of my childhood at a Mr. Arcade in Nanuet, NY (sadly long gone and replaced by a futon store, dunno if that's even still open), but that place had the good ol' token machines and everything. So many great arcade games there over the years, too many to even remember - TMNT, Street Fighter II, the Capcom Vs. games, Space Harrier, Super Mario Bros., a whole mess of old lightgun games. . . Good times.
The last place where I saw an honest to goodness arcade was in Chapel Hill, NC when I was going to college there. There was one at a mall I sometimes drove over to when I had some time to spare, but I mostly went to the one in the Student Union - Killer Instinct, X-Men vs. Street Fighter and MvC, Sunset Riders, the original House of the Dead, a NEO-GEO cab with Samurai Shodown II, a Capcom 3-in-One with Midnight Wanderers and Chariot - great stuff. Too bad they were undergoing renovation by the time I was through.
