The way I see it, if you're gonna build an electric car, why not do it with some style?

The current prototype can get about 70-100 miles on a charge. They're working to improve that and are targeting bringing them to market in 2013 for a price of about $90,000
This'll go over like a lead balloon and investors are going to lose their shirts. The DeLorean is and always has been an ugly piece of shit that only gets a pass because of its association with a popular film series.

Is he keeping the original body style or is it gonna be modernized at all
They're working on lightening up the frame with better materials and such, but the body is gonna look the same.

They already did and it's called the Tesla. Which gets more than double that range, and does 0-60 in three seconds plus change. Seriously, if you had $90k and wanted to get an electric sports car, you should really just spend the extra $10k and get one that's actually, you know, good.

the entire business plan is based on Kanye West buying the entire production run for vanity's sake

That might actually work.

...because you see no Delorean can go 88 unless you drive it off a cliff (or possibly put it on rails and push it with a train)...
Well at least they'll be as slow as they were in the 80s, so that's authentic
If it can go highway speeds, who cares?
People who like to exceed highway speeds? People who like to take their car to the track? People who care about performance?
Ok, fair enough. But for an average person who just wants a car they think looks neat, why should there be any concern about whether or not it can go 130?

So you'd pay $90k for a cool looking car built around the suspension and engine of a Dodge Dart, just because it looks cool?
Exactly. What average person is going to spend 90k on a car? And there's more to performance than top speed. There's acceleration and handling to take into account. Anyone who pays 90k for this piece of shit is a fool.
The electric motor in this car is going to pump out the equivelant of 260 bhp. Compared to the 140bhp of the original DeLorean (well, American, the European version has 160bhp). That's a lot more get up and go.
And, while the stainless steel body remains, as does the extra weight of the battery based engine, the frame of the cars will be made of a newer, lighter material that will actually make the car weigh less than the original DeLorean.
So, all in all, it's a better car than the original.
It just has a shitty range.
Edit: The Jalopnik article does a lot better job explaining this car than either of the ones in the OP.

Ok, I'll concede "average person" was a bad idea to add into the discussion of a 90k car.
But if I had the money, it would indeed be a car I would consider purchasing. I would do research about maintenance costs and safety and reliability and such, and I would take it for a test drive to make sure I liked driving it. But I do not place value on having super awesome top speed or acceleration or handling. I wouldn't be the type to "take it to the track" or whatever.
To some extent, yes, acceleration and handling are important. But for for my personal choices, the bar for those aren't set very high. I don't care about super sportscar level performance. I place value on different aspects, and yes, looking cool is one of them.

Deloreans were panned in the 80s for riding and handling like a hippopotamus on a skateboard. And terrible build quality.
Using the same suspension and bodies/interiors means they will be just as bad as a car that was a piece of shit in the 80s, 30 years later...

For $90k!
Utter stupidity. If you really want a Delorean, get a second-hand one.
Yeah, paying 90k for that makes you a fool. Pure and simple. I don't care if you're not concerned about handling and acceleration or even range, but paying 90k for that just because of how it looks is absurd. The only way it makes any sense at all is if you're stupid rich and can afford to throw away 90k on a whim.

Damn
Like, have people forgotten that that was the joke of having that car be the Back to the Future car? What's going on?
Coran Attack!

Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.

Porsche 918 Spyder
The flux capacitor where the passenger seat should be is actually an electric flywheel accumulator that acts as a turbo boost for the car.
The kind of a car a concrete executive would drive.
You're thinking of BMW.
