Week-to-Week and Month-to-Month places in Seattle?

So, in a few days my sister and I are getting on a plane and going to Seattle, hopefully never to return to Tennessee. We're staying with a friend of hers for a few weeks, until the 7th of November, at which point I was supposed to be ready to either move into a place (definitely not happening as I'll explain soon) or find an extended stay hotel.

Now, here's the thing: About two weeks ago, after tickets were bought and notice to my landlord was given and all that fun stuff, the client company that pays all my bills (I'm a freelance writer) decided it was time to change all their systems. Meaning reduced output until December (but we get the backlog when the systems are back. That'll be...fun). So, I'm suddenly not making $3k/month, I'm making more like $1200-1300, with another $800 coming in at some point when my friend sells my car for me. Meaning that if I don't find a cheaper place, I'm going to have to sell my PS3 and netbook and stuff to feed myself during November.

So far the best I've been able to find is a $1200/month place and a $450/wk place. Obviously the first is a better deal, but depending on how my paychecks land and whatnot, and how fast my friend sells my car, I might have to go for week-to-week for at least a week or two.

And yes, I realize this screams recklessness, but I was never going to move if I didn't do this. And worst case scenario is selling off luxury items, not living in a ditch.

So, Seattleite forumgoers, any cheaper recommendations (wifi or some other form of internet is a must, btw, since I work online)? Should I post a Craigslist ad looking for a room to rent short term--and if I do, what steps should I take/questions should I ask to avoid getting ax murdered?

The best you've been able to find is $1200 a month in Seattle? Look around a little bit more. You can find places for much cheaper than that. And I'm not talking about in shitty parts of town.

Roomshares might be a great place to look for the short term as well.

Less than $1200 for a month-to-month place? Obviously I can find better rent than that, but I can't find any sort of extended hotel deal for less than that. Searching is kind of a pain with all the shitty hotel-search-engines that pop up.

Craigslist. It's Seattle. That's your best bet. Used to live there.

Yeah, this sort of thing is exactly what the sublet page on Craigslist is for.

Another place to check out is Padmapper. It pulls from Craigslist and a few other search sites and you're able to put in your price range, living preferences, etc.

You will not get a good deal on a weekly hotel stay place. They are specifically designed to charge you a lot of money for a service you may not be able to find elsewhere. Post a "Looking to rent" ad on craigslist, and start e-mailing everybody. Explain your situation, someone will offer you a place to stay in your timeframe. It will probably take lots and lots of e-mails.

What is this I don't even.

Just putting this out there, but I was also told that contacting extended stay hotels and asking for a better price can sometimes work. I was looking for a place in boston for only one month, and ended up going the craigslist route. It worked out fine, but talking to some poeple afterwards they indicated that you can get pretty good deals sometimes just calling an extended stay hotel, telling them how long you want to stay, and asking for a better price then they have listed.
