Okay so sorry for the late response but I just got back in town and have been catching up on work the past couple days.
So I came home from a long vacation to find a nice package at the door. I opened it up and what do I find?!
Why, if it isn't some really awesome watercolor drawings on paper with the note Merry Christmas!
But wait...there's something, behind the paper? I cant wait to see!
What could be inside that little circle? Is that an eye? No way, it's...
So awesome! A game that totally fell off my radar, but that I would love to have. And now it's mine!
Now for this writing, what could possibly be under this wrapper?
I have to say I've never seen Yojimbo, but it's currently on my list of movies to see! And now I own it!
Finally, the whole haul:
Thanks for the gifts Santa, and sorry for the late write-up. They were much appreciated.
Since I've been gifted and my gift has been received, I don't really have anything more to contribute.
But I do want to say that you all are awesome people. Truly awesome people!

Hooray! I was your Santa, @stevemarks44. I played the dangerous game of getting you things that I knew you were already interested in. I was real worried you would get to them before my gift got to you. I saw in your post history that you were interested in Kurosawa films but you had never watched any, so I got you my favorite one. If you like Yojimbo, I would recommend you also watch Seven Samurai the next time you have four goddamn hours to spare. Your post history also seemed to indicate that you played Portal, but not 2, so that seemed like an obvious choice!
By the way, you were supposed to unfold the piece of paper that the note taped to Portal 2 is written on!
@cooljammer00 it's just brown paper but I tried to wrap them using very little tape so he could get it off easily if he wanted.
And what a gift get, stevemarks44, although I am shocked that anyone doesn't own/ hasn't played Portal: best game ever!!!
I'm a spawn of Satan and didn't enjoy Portal 1 at all. I actually got Portal 2 for free when I crafted some holiday coal on Steam. It's still sitting in my inventory, available to be gifted, because I had no urge to play it either. By all means, continue to hate me.
mntorankusuI'm not sure how to use this thing....Registered Userregular
Well, hey. Portal 2 has quite a different tone and style from the first game, even in terms of puzzle design. Unless you simply hate the concept of portals, you might enjoy the second one even if you didn't like the first. It has a lot more "personality" and more varied design.
Are people lining up around the block yet, begging Hypatia to be LPM's Easter bunny? :P
I picked up a hobby I have always wanted to try, originally because I wanted to handmake something to next year's secret Santa. Initial attempts have been pretty discouraging. You might even say disastrous. But I saw this image while browsing a PAer's tumblr last night and it made me feel a little better.
So, watch out future Santee! You are (hopefully) getting cool things next year.

My problems with Portal 1 were largely due to what everyone else seems to call me crazy for - inconsistent physics. I couldn't predict what facing I would come out of a portal to respond to the new situation. Everyone else says they've never had a problem with this, but I experimented with it for a while and had no good results. I had no interest in playing a game where I knew the solution to the puzzle, and it was a problem in execution to solve it, based on (what I felt was) a random element.
And with the backlog most of us carry these days, I'm not about to add to mine a sequel to a game that I didn't enjoy at all.
Fair enough, I withdraw the time-out! My difficulty with the game was controlling what I was doing, but I loved it - I'd wake up in the middle of the night having dreamt the solution to a level. I really struggled with executing moves- I was playing on my PC. I'm now playing it on my PS3, and find the controller a bit easier than a keyboard.

Portal 2 is much, much better about that. Mostly from a puzzle design perspective, where the puzzles are almost entirely of the "challenging to solve, easy to execute" variety. There are interviews where the designers admitted that many of the puzzles in Portal were too twitchy and so on, and that was something they wanted to fix in Portal 2. Really, I know exactly what you're talking about, and I agree, and it's something that was improved immensely in the second game.

That's generally why I loved Braid so much. When I was solving some of the final puzzles in that game, I was just sitting there staring at the screen. I could play out the events in my head because it was (almost) always a matter of thinking, not execution. And really, that's kind of a gravy over top of everything else that made it brilliant. I'll always remember accidentally stumbling on the solution to my last puzzle in the shadow world.
[Edit]
And you're swaying me with those remarks, mntorankusu. I'll keep it in mind.
Hmm..should I be concerned that my gift to my santee is still not "linked" to either of our names on this years gift wall? I.E. my santee has their gift from me listed on their name but not that it was from me; and on my name it lists the gift I received but doesn't say I gave a gift. I've PM'd Hypatia about it and I know my santee has too. Everyone else is getting theirs updated over time and he got my gift a month ago.
I know this is a lot of work for Hypatia and I really appreciate it for everyone; I just fear the banhammer.
After a dozen pictures, this is the best my dog has to offer... so indifferent!
A package arrives! Let's see what we have here...
DANG! I've gotta say, my girlfriend was very excited to see the PopCap Collection! Condemned 2 I already had (although I hadn't popped it into the Xbox, thus not seeing it on my Live list), but I've got a friend who could use it, so it'll definitely go to good use. Timeshift I'd never heard of, but always like new games to try out! I've got an odd story about Stranglehold... I bought a Limited Edition copy from GameStop about a year ago, and put it on my shelf and went into my backlog. Recently I opened it to check it out, and... the only disc in the case was the Bonus Disc! So great pick on that one!
Dog still uninterested. Blah. But more stuff! I'd played Pure's demo and thought it was great, so that'll be played first! And DarkSector looks pretty cool, although I hadn't ever heard of it. And check it out, blurays! Cars & Monsters Inc are two I don't have yet, so that's awesome for the collection! My 6 year-old will definitely love them too!
Thanks Shady3011, you sent me way too much stuff! I'm very excited to try everything out!
While I've only played the demo, TimeShift has some neat multiplayer if you can round up some people to play. It's kind of like Unreal Tournament but with Time Grenades. You throw a grenade and it makes a time bubble where it hits. One of the grenade modes makes everything within the field move ultra slow (bullets included). Another causes everything in the time field to freeze for a few seconds. That means you can hit someone with a Freeze time grenade, move into their field of vision, fire a rocket into the bubble, and they'll have to stare at the rocket until the field wears off and it hits them.
Pure and Stranglehold are great games! They didn't get much love around here at the time of release (I think Stranglehold was reasonably popular but Pure was lost in the wash of 4-letter Codemaster racing games), but I played heaps of both of 'em on my brothers 360. Very noice
Spoilered is my list of games that I got for Christmas and for my birthday (basically a week after Christmas):
* Gears of War 3
* Batman: AC
* Crysis 2
* Star Wars: TOR
* RAGE
* Battlefield 3
* Assassin's Creed: Rev
* Infamous 2
* Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
* Resistance 3
* Shadows of the Damned
* Kirby: Return to Dreamland
* Dungeon Defenders
* Nuclear Dawn
* PAYDAY: The Heist
* Skyrim
* Super Mario 3D Land
* Hunted: The Demon's Forge
* Alice: Madness Returns
* Serious Sam 3 BFE
* Frozen Synapse
* Space Pirates and Zombies
There's more I just can't think of 'em... What I'm getting at is that I always appreciate personalized gifts.
Yay gifts! I didn't see a name on any of them though, so I really don't know who to thank.
Many a blurry camera phone picture behind the spoiler
First we have some obligatory pets looking at the box. Also pictured, the treeskirt they have detached from the tree and are using as a bed, so it's crumpled up NEXT to the tree. Close enough.
Two packages came separately. Let's open the envelope first:
This is some quality stalking right here. Obscure is the best, worst survival horror out there. Co-op survival horror is something everyone needs to experience. This is the sequel to that awesome game.
Time to open the box
OUT OF THE WAY, CATS!
Exciting! A game I've wanted for a very long while, but for some reason never bought for myself. I look forward to playing it.
The final gift comes in amazon brand wrapping (which is actually pretty nice, I've never used it before), with the following note.
This I should not have looked through while hungry. Everything looks delicious, and I am eager to try it out.
I couldn't predict what facing I would come out of a portal to respond to the new situation. Everyone else says they've never had a problem with this, but I experimented with it for a while and had no good results.
This is probably way too late to make any difference, but a portal always retains the orientation from which it was shot. Imagine a cylinder projecting from the gun barrel. No matter where you shoot it, the portal that is produced is a cross-section of that imaginary cylinder where it hits the wall. That portal's top and bottom are the same as the top and bottom of the cylinder and gun, and will remain so, and portals will always link top to top and bottom to bottom.
Because of this, when shot on a wall, the bottom of the portal will always be underneath. When shot on a floor, the bottom of the portal will always be the end towards you, and on a ceiling, the bottom will always be the end away from you.

A bit ago (the 29th) I received a proxy with a tracking number. I have been checking that number way too many times in the interim.
Today it arrived.
Nibbler Genasi (long haired) and Yoshimitsu Capoeria (black) investigate the foreign box place in their quadrant. Address hid with one of my new splash cymbals I got from my wife for christmas, woo!
Yoshimitsu mounts the parcel to examine it's structural integrity while Nibbler investigates the rogue loud thing he hates.
Wait what.
Nibbler is leery as to why someone has sent their house a package filled with crunchy things.
Yoshimitsu lets her brother take the brunt of the obviously eminent explosion.
AN EXPLOSION OF TUFTOO.
Holyshitholyshit.
What a fat haul of TF2 loot. 1 Large sized Mann Co. Sticker (this is going on the back window of my car for sure) 2 small sized Mann Co. stickers, a Red and Blu parking permit (my poor wife also has to drive this car, haha!) A sentry gun mouse pad (this thing is huge! Smooth as hell too! I was a bit worried because I liked my hard RatPadz mouse pad, but I really like this new one!) and a Red/ Blu team mug! My wife told me after christmas that she almost got me it but chose not to. I was disappointed, but Santa has provided!
Yoshimitsu and Nibbler, however, are not impressed with the lack of items for them. Nibbler, that's not nice.
Suddenly a realization! Crunchies!
Best presents ever!
Done now. What's next?
Thanks so much, mysterious Santa! I've honestly been surprised that I haven't gotten any TF2 related gear up until this point. Now I have to go into reverse-stalker mode and see if I can figure out who you are based on name/ e-mail/ and phone number!

So it's the end of the week I have neither received anything nor heard anything from or about my Santa. Santa, if you're out there could you please give me a heads up about what's going on? I don't want anyone getting banned.
So am I, SirUltimos and LewieP's Mummy the only ones who haven't received a gift yet? Hate to sound like a negative nancy, but hurry up, santas! You have till Chinese New Year! Because I'll be likely going on vacation then!
UEAKCrash: great haul! I've still got my Apperture Science car park sticker on my car!
I've got cross with the bloomin' USB drum kit seller on Amazon, cos its still not arrived. Said I'll leave even more negative feedback if he doesn't either a) send me a drum kit or b) return my money. He's not replied!
Chen: only 3 people without gifts isn't too bad though.

I think we're rapidly approaching the "beyond reasonable doubt" period. Christmas is long over, so if your gift is late or whatever, then it might be time to drop the magic and let your Santee know what is up.
