Their thing is some formulation of "if you like them on Facebook then you get a game for $1"
http://www.facebook.com/OnLive
I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but I am pretty sure that:
If you don't have an OnLive account and you make one and you like the Facebook page or something, then you get your first game for a dollar
If you already have an OnLive account and you liked the Facebook page then you get a promo code for 98% off a game.
I'm not sure what you do if you have an OnLive account and you didn't already Like the Facebook page, maybe this isn't FOR you.
But anyway, I just bought Deus Ex Human Revolution collectors edition for $0.90, so I figured this information is worth sharing.
I own three or four games on OnLive and if you have good internet it's a pretty decent experience. Most of the games suck, but there are some gems, most notably Deus Ex, and Splinter Cell Conviction

MineCraft: Menetherin
Steam: Vloeza_SE++
I guess the dollar would be easier to find.

It's Steam for anything in their library
OR
You can pay 15 bucks a month and get to play perhaps half of their catalog
Hint: it's the less-good-half of their catalog

Any new 50 dollar title will not see the subscription pack for months, I'm pretty sure even hit titles like Arkham Asylum are STILL not in the pack.
Just Cause 2 is in there though, that's pretty good.

Also does your game access ever expire?
I signed up for a new account a few days ago, picked up DX:HR for $1.
I got the Augmented edition, which apparently came with a full pass to DX1? I dunno. Either way, I'm going to be busy for a while.
When it launched I was still on DSL so there was no way for me to really use the service; being on cable now certainly helps. There's just the most minor input lag, which for about 15 minutes I had to adapt to. But once I picked it up I didn't even notice it.
Thanks to just not sleeping as much I powered through DXHR and had a good experience with it. I plan to re-play DX1 next.
(FWIW I have Comcast cable, tests around 15 to 17 mb download.)
Also I like owning my games. Steam is one thing, where I can have the games on my computer.
But if Onlive ever goes under, all those games you bought are gone
Bummer. I was considering getting Titanquest Gold for the $1 to get me to the release of Diablo 3, but I guess not.
Also by the same right if steam ever went under and you lost those installs they too, are gone forever, so mean, that's an argument against digital distribution as a whole.
Not if you have them stored on your computer! And they have said that if they ever go down, they will release a key that unlocks all your games
You missed the "lost the installs" part. meaning like valve goes under, steam is shut down and then your hard drive corrupts. and you didn't have them saved to dvd, because you were totally going to do that tomorrow, fuucck.
Oh, yeah I did.
I don't really have much confidence in this magic key considering that I have never ever actually managed to get offline mode to work
I adore Steam but that's one thing that leaves me a little concerned
To go to the next tier is 20-40 dollars, which doesn't seem worth it.
Oh completely, i'm just saying, that argument could be used for just about any digital distribution system and have about the same merit.
Though i think they would do better to have the subscription plan more robust and make it their main selling point. I think a lot of people would pay that if they could play semi new games a few months after release, but there is probably way too much red tape and politics to ever do that.
Have you tried it recently? I've had to use it several times over the last couple months and it's worked pretty good.
I think it doesn't have many problems if you've played the game before while online. Not sure about that, though.
With some of the drm they have these days, you would be fucked even if you have the dvd. :-/
that's cheaper than a redbox rental for one day
think of it as a rental that lasts the lifetime of the service
Except for the bandwidth argument of course.
I'd love to try OnLive, but my bandwidth wouldn't be able to handle it.
Hell I get frequent pauses while watching Youtube videos and I can't get Netflix videos to ever kick into HD mode.
I don't think it's for me.
