XBOX Live Gold 12-month subscriptions + headset + 200 points, etc worth $14.98 NOW?

I ran into Target while I was out of town and spotted three XBL starter kits on clearance for $14.98 (marked for much higher). I got two of them knowing that I had no headsets for my two wireless 360 controllers that I expected to be using on my PC very shortly (as soon as Best Buy get's the adapter in stock I will buy it for $14.99). Just earlier, I was tempted to get a new headset for $9.99 at Gamestop where someone had traded in a new and sealed one from Blockbuster and it was being sold as used (then I noticed that half of the bagged ones were still "new" really). I have no XBOX 360, so I was essentially paying $5 more for the subscription.

I then spotted ONE at my local Target with the free billiards game (only one at the previous Target had this while the others had expired coupons).

Now, I will own an XBOX 360 when I can find a $50-$100 discount on the upcomming HDMI model similar to the recent Microcenter and Toys R Us promos, so my question is: Is it worth it to get three or four years of XBL all at once or will I be missing out on future bundles and such? I mean, I've seen the older XBOX starter kits on clearance before, so I assume that this price will not be the "best ever."

Even if I don't get all four for myself, I'm wondering if the price is good enough that I should go out of my way to tell my neighbor and pass off one of mine.

It wouldn't be bad getting it now, usually the bundles are just old games.
However waiting on the HDMI model which may never exist is pretty silly. Especially since we wouldn't see it until around Xmas '07 and therefore you won't be getting $50-100 off deals for...eons. The most recent rumor, a larger HDD, black console, HDMI output priced at $489 sends up all kinds of red bullshit flags.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'm kinda comforted by the fact that I can go ahead and get set up with four years of service so I don't have to worry about money ticking away every moment I'm not playing. :D

Actually, I take the rumor very seriously. It fits with Microsoft's projected roll-out for 65nm CPUs. They'd want to release multiple changes at once to maintain a smaller support database. We know that they are experimenting with HDMI. We know that IPTV requires a larger HDD to be useful. We know that retailers DO have a new SKU for May 1st ($475). Something HUGE is going on with the UK prices. Heck, if a major price cut is in the works, an HD-DVD equipped unit for $475 isn't entirely out of the question as that is very close to the BD-equipped $500 PS3. I also expect the core model to be eliminated to make room for a reduced Premium model (unless the Wii needs a more direct competitor ;)). To top it all off, I'm VERY disheartened by the current failure rates and I anticipate the 65nm model to be a refined and less problematic unit.

And, well, I'm not too worried about being able to find a deal on the new model. Microcenter has been pretty consistant with the XBOX 360 deals. They hit well before the console was a year old and they apply to all models (the new one isn't trying to differentiate itself THAT much). They've returned and been extended multiple times. This past President's Day sale almost forced me to buy one for the $50 gift card, $30-off HD-DVD, and $19.99 Wireless controllers. I would have jumped at even just the controllers but I just picked up two WITH battery pack and two more battery packs + charger for a grand total of $28 thanks to some mis-marked trade-ins. w00t!
