Thunderbird and Windows Contacts

Hello,

I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my email client. I recently made the switch from Windows Live Mail, because that program kept freezing and "updating folders" on my homebrew IMAP server for no damn good reason (Debian Server running Postfix & Dovecot) so I had to cut the cord.

Thunderbird works great with the glaring exception that there is no way to synchronize my Windows Contacts with the program. There was an addon called "Windows Contacts Loader" that worked by importing the Windows Contacts on startup, but that doesn't appear to be working properly. (largely because of the dumbasses at Mozilla thinking they need to release a major release every week, breaking all addons in the process, because they were written for 5.0 one week and version 7.0 came out the following week. Yes, I hacked the .xpi file to allow the addon to install in 7.0, but the addon doesn't work and it's not being updated by the author)

Does anyone have a solution for actively syncing Windows Contacts into Thunderbird? It needs to be that way, because my wife and I have iPhones, which synchronize quite well with Windows Contacts (imagine that!), and manually updating multiple, disparate contact databases isn't exactly what I call a good time.

P.S. (a rant with lots of swearing!)
Why the fuck can't Thunderbird work natively with Windows Contacts? It can import Outlook contacts (who the fuck uses Outlook?) and Outlook Express (who the fuck uses Outlook Express?!), but it can't use Windows Contacts, a nice standard that has been around since Windows Vista! It seriously can't be that difficult! Why does Mozilla feel the need to reinvent the fucking wheel and develop their own bullshit address book format? What is this, the fuckin' 80's?!

Can you get them into Google?

I'm using Thunderbird with the 'Google Contacts' extension. Also have the 'Provider For Google Calendar' as well.

Yeah, the open-source PIM programs have always been bad. LibreOffice is great, but Evolution and Thundebird are both just, bleh.

I suppose it would be possible to use Google as a unifying system, though I wonder if it's only a matter of time before Apple kills Google support...

Meanwhile I managed to downgrade my version of Thunderbird from 7 to 6, restoring Windows Contact Loader functionality in the process. Those dumbasses need to stop releasing new versions every month. Seriously. Where are we gonna be this time next year? Thunderbird 19.0? Stupid.
