When we checked around to see what the extent of the problem was, that's what's causing it. That's based on poeple swearing they don't have single password accounts all over the place. My BF definitely didn't either. Microsoft said it was happening either due to keyloggers or you giving away too much personal info over Xbox Live.

    I hate it so much.

Although having said that, gonna read Totilo's article about GTA V. Honestly, I'm wondering if the industry has moved on since then, and whether the series is as much of a juggernaut as it still was. I'm not saying it won't sell well and that if one platform didn't have it, they would be missing out (they absolutely would). But, I don't know, the fact that we got one thread about it on here some time after it came out, that's had only 33 replies? I know all we have is a logo and a trailer next week, but that kind of thing would've been enough to melt the forums down with about 5 threads all being made at the same time by excited people.

Or maybe I'm just getting too old for this.

I wouldn't really worry much about it. One thing Rockstar has shown is that they make changes and improvements to previous editions. (How much people like them is, of course, relative. But the point is that Rockstar doesn't just toss the game off and expect it to be good enough. They tweak it for sure.) The III-engine games were a slow development, but the DLC for IV certainly showed that they could make adjustments to criticism.

The reality is, though, that the industry has moved on a bit from when GTA was the proven leader. Maybe because it went multi-platform. Maybe because console gamers have moved more steadily to FPS games. And maybe because people are still smarting from the hype backlash IV nearly deserved. (Good game, but not 10/10.)

As others have mentioned, the gameplay vs story segregation was to blunt, most of the characters were difficult to relate to, the middle section of the game dragged, Alderney was poorly implemented, and many new mechanics were panned rightly or wrongly.

It'll do fine. Probably selling as well as IV did. But like everything else, there just so much gaming to think about. I still think the forum changes are affecting many threads (I know Arkham City just released, but I make no effort to find the [likely easy to find] thread about it. But there are multiple things involved in my case.). However, I expect after the trailer drops, the V thread will pick up steam and as it gets closer to release, the dedicated ones will keep it going pretty well.

Also, haters gonna hate. I'm looking forward to it like nearly everything else Rockstar does. But I just don't feel like engaging anybody about it. It'll come out, I hope to buy it, I hope to enjoy it.

Speaking of GTA V, there's a reason Rockstar announced it today:
A friend of mine (a developer who will remain nameless) said that the Grand Theft Auto V announcement was oddly timed. I didn't understand what he meant at first until our readers and Twitter began mentioning that today's date coincides with the official start date of former Florida attorney Jack Thompson's disbarment date. On September 25, 2008, the Florida Supreme Court’s disbarment order for Thompson was signed. It went into effect 30 days later, on October 25, 2008.

Ready to learn even more about the intricacies of Vita game saving, long before you'll ever hit "save" on a Vita game? After reporting the list of games requiring external memory card, Kotaku Japan followed up with SCEI to get more information about the save system.

Games capable of saving directly to their own cartridges, the site learned, won't offer you the option to save to an external card. That means you'll never be given the choice -- games that can save internally will always do so. The site also discovered that you'll have to have a memory card in the Vita at startup in order to operate games that require external storage.

Sony told Kotaku Japan that in addition to save data, some games may use the memory card for DLC. Got it?

This is some N64 shit right here. Some games with a bit of storage, some games without. At least a decent amount of those with on board saves eventually allowed memory card usage as well.

So, uh. You know the 3DS' extra circle pad extension thing that will only come out in Japan for Monster Hunter?
While Nintendo of America hasn’t said much about their plans for it, Capcom says the second circle pad will be available in North America when Resident Evil: Revelations comes out.

And it looks like the accessory will be called Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro in the West. Nintendo filed a trademark for Circle Pad Pro in Japan alongside one for "slide pad expansion" in Japanese.

I'm trying to think of the rationale. Would this potentially allow for exploits or incompatibilities if you could buy DLC and had to save it to the card...or had to save it to external memory? If you lent a game to a friend, or resold it? Is it likely that they any and all DLC will require external memory?

I don't remember where I heard it, but I seem to recall hearing that the issue with people's XBox accounts buying FIFA stuff was a result of people getting people's XBox passwords from something else (something else got hacked and some people used the same password on both).

In any case, the scope is drastically smaller than the PSN issues we had earlier.

This. Hacked is the wrong word to use for getting your account username/password cracked.

I just had a damn fraudulent charge on my account. Didn't change the email or password, just somehow managed to log in and buy 4000 points and a bunch of Fifa stuff. If MS would let me remove the CC from the account like I keep trying to, this wouldn't be a damn problem, but apparently that's too much to ask.

Messed up thing is, I'm prepping to deploy down in Mississippi, and haven't been near my damn xbox for nearly 2 months. Not sure how they managed to get the password to my live id. Don't use it for anything else.

The latest game from Spike and Danganronpa producer Yoshinori Terasawa is "Conception: Please Have My Baby."

In this school and love themed RPG, you'll play as Itsuki, who must create a child with twelve girls (or maybe just one of them) in order to save the world.

The game promises to mix three themes: "love with maidens," "making children" and "school." (I was only aware that one of these existed in a game context...)

    Conception is currently date TBA.

IGN showcasing that they are the undisputed kings of writing fluff articles.

    fluffarticlesonauto.png

One image consisting of a logo for a game and the announcement of a trailer, this gets five articles. Yeah its a new Grand Theft Auto and everything but they probably have a whole year and a half to do this shtick before the game even comes out. Wait until the actual trailer before doing this kind of thing so you have something that is actually somewhat substantial to write an article about, at the very least.

And "What trailers mean for GTA V" being an article? Really? I think that can be summed up with just: creating hype, dropping hints, showing off the game (as is the case with all games). There, done.

I think the height of their laziness was taking Pokemon fan art that someone made and putting that up as their sort of splash image right next to all of the Pokemon articles links. They didn't credit the artist or even bother to alter it in any way (aside from cropping or resizing). They otherwise just uploaded the image and slapped it on there.

Meh. The Saint's Row franchise and GTAIV effectively killed my interest in further GTA games. Hopefully Rockstar will figure out what the hell it wants to do this time, but I doubt I'm going to be very interested in them either way. Haven't enjoyed their stuff since Vice City, back when they knew better than to take the GTA stuff too seriously.

I'm sure this case is unique to me (I'm a special little snowflake!) but I just flat got burnt out on GTAIV. I dug the three previous ones, but had to give up on IV by the time I hit the second major section. I got annoyed by the "dating", and there was a lot about the game that was good but not great, but the story and game world was just awful. Within the first five minutes, we pretty much got this:

Niko: I have come to America hoping to escape my violent, dark past and begin anew.
Some Guy He Just Met: Hey, wanna go be a thug and beat up mans?
Niko: Woo hoo, sign me up!

...and it just continues on through what I played, Niko lamenting his past while continuing to ram shotguns up people's butts. The story tries to be meaningful but it just makes Niko look like a deluded hypocrite. And the sense of humor... gawd. Utterly juvenile, unsubtle and utterly lacking in creativity, and I say this as a guy who is extremely excited about Beavis and Butt-head's return this Thursday. It's the kind of crapola that you'll only like if you think an internet cafe named "Tw@t" is funny. I read the game's hellhole of an "internet" for two hours looking for funny, and I think that broke me.

Are any of these problems NOT present in SA though? Is Niko somehow less crazy than CJ? I'll disagree about the game world, the virtual NY/NJ was pretty damn good. It's much better to have a well constructed smaller urban area than having to spend all that time trying to figure out how to drive on highways between half-baked cities.

    Learn from Assassin's Creed

Please put pigeons on the map this time, Rockstar

    TIA

Also I think the opposite has kinda happened for me: Knowing that a new GTA is on the way kills any enthusiasm I had for a new Saints Row. I picked up Saints Row a couple months ago because, well, it was really cheap ($20 for the double pack of 1 and 2). 1 had a lot of gameplay things I really liked about it, even though everything had a very light feel to it (I love the weightiness in the physics of GTAIV). I got bored with it and started Saints Row 2 (people in the SR thread advised me to skip 1 anyways), and...it didn't really seem that much improved. Certainly a lot more outlandish, a lot wackier, but it didn't seem like the core elements of the game had improved. But yes, GTA could learn some things from SR. A lot of side missions would be nice (though don't make them stacking levels doing the same damn thing like in SR), it sucks sometimes only having one or two mission-givers in GTA. And regenerating health, please. I appreciate the gesture of putting in "health packs," but burgers don't replenish my health unless they're incredibly tasty and juicy so it'd be fine to go for something as unbelievable (and fun) as regenerating health.

But the humor, oh man. People say the humor in GTA is stupid and juvenile? Those people would suffer multiple aneurysms playing through Saints Row and swallowing their attempts at humor. I actually thought GTA humor was at its absolute worst in Vice City with the Dennis Hopper porn director, it was toned down a bit in San Andreas, and honestly I felt the approach worked well enough in IV; make all that humor optional. You can go inside your apartment and watch some terrible show about how all Republicans are bad, or you can choose to ignore it.

What I would like is a much more serious approach. They tried this with Niko in IV, and a lot of it worked, but (and I know this may be asking too much), I would like there to be less killing (in missions, sandbox mode is all up to you) and the killings that you have to do having more of an impact. Someone in the GTAV thread basically suggested Grand Theft Auto: Breaking Bad. I can't tell you how fucking much I would be all over that idea.

But anyways, GTAIV coming. I hope it's timely. Fall 2012 would be nice.

I agree on the shooting, but I personally feel that GTAIV has the best driving out there currently

And it would be absolutely unfair to compare the physics of it to a racing game, since you will never ever get to those racing game speeds in a GTA game. There's so much random shit to account for.
