Ok so I was up late working on a paper on my first generation Intel Macbook Pro using Microsoft office. Saving as I go I had my USB drive plugged in and thought I was saving it to there and backing it up as it flashed every time I saved. So when I finish and save it I think I've got it all on my USB drive, should copy it over to my computer's harddrive and just drag, drop, and replace the file. I hadn't saved anything on to my USB drive and just replaced 6 hours of work with my totally scrapped and super incomplete rough draft.
Is there anywhere I can try and find the earlier file or am I totally screwed?
Thanks, that's what I thought. The worst thing about this is the assignment requires a lot of repetition to begin with so now we're in for double doses. I recall essentially everything, it's just sitting back down and writing it. Gah! It's so frustrating because every paper in college including my thesis was backed up at least twice, usually three times.

It's a long shot, but if you're on Lion and using a recent Office you may have access to Versioning.

You can probably recall your entire 6 hours worth of work just by typing everything you remember faster than you can recover the data.
