I am borrowing this hotplate from a friend who is borrowing it from her mother. The friend cannot read the lettering, and while pressing buttons using trial and error has taught me how to get the timer functioning, I cannot get this thing to actually produce heat. I am hoping knowing what the buttons say will help.

Does it have a model number or something like that in english? Trying to see if their english site can dredge up a manual or something.
Also! Are you sure its hotplate? They also sell induction heaters, so it wouldn't do anything if there wasn't a pan on it.

    It's Japanese.

From left to right, it reads: Timer - Regular Time (???) Heat (top) - Keep Warm (bottom) -Weak - Middle - Strong - Heat - Keep Warm - Off.

    Is it an induction hotplate?

Sounds like Toaster got the hotplate (ha!) working, but if it's induction, you may not feel any heat unless you've got a pot on it.

I think, from left to right ... set time, confirm time, (top, add heat/ bottom keep warm) , weak, medium, strong, add heat, keep warm, cut (or stop)

Okay it must be an induction heater then. With buttons like that there's no way you couldn't've turned it on just by mashing randomly.

Thank you for the translations. I'm pretty sure you guys are right and it is an induction heater, but even with stuff on it I get no heat. Trying to find an online manual for what I assume is the model number gives no hits, but I am going to keep looking.
