God of War II - Kratos vs. The Statue of Liberty

Where is the discussion on this DVD of pure awesome?

coldemosw4.jpg

Some guy showed me the demo and it's amazing, it's just a small portion of one boss battle on one level but multiple times during it I was sitting there saying 'Holy shit, that is epic'. By the small taste that they have given us with the demo it looks like they might just be able to make a game better than the first, or at the very least, just as good, which is saying a whole lot because GoWI was one of the best things out there in the genre.

So, discuss?

Who's excited?

Kotaku talks about it here and they are excited as well.

Can't wait for this game to come out.

Can't get the demo or find someone who has it? Watch it here.

Omg, are we returning to the good old days of shitty box art? This is on par with the old megaman box art.

    No..

First, the artwork is awesome. Second, who cares? It's a demo disc.

I find that artwork with the giant statue completely awful. I hate that kind of art style.

And anyways, I just mentionned that casually. I'll still play and enjoy the game no matter what. And it's not worst than all the people on this board that ALWAYS end up saying! OMG JAPANESE BOX ART IS SOO MUCH BETTER!!! (Because we all know that everything in japan is better ^______________^ , right? )

Unlike the old Mega Man box arts, in God of War II you actually do end up in the hand of some huge magic breathing statue forcing it's hands open to save your own life.

The action in the game is just as awesome as what's going on in the cover.

    Could use more fish costume.

Is this demo a giveaway thing or some kind of 'you have to preorder to get it'?
Because it makes all kinds of sense to force people to buy a game to get the demo for it.

It,s the way they use the colors to make a "3d effect". It's a style I never really liked at all. I have nothing against what's going on in the picture. That's all fine and dandy.

-Oh and to actually say something about the game itself: I am quite looking forward to the game, altho it'll only be a rental for me. One thing that disapoints me is he still seems to be using pretty much all the same combat moves, and fighting a lot of the same ennemies. But it should still be quite entertaining as long as there's a better pacing in terms of boss battles throughout the whole game.

This is the demo thing you get if you pre-order the game.

I suppose that is a silly way to promote something, especially since everyone who's pre-ordering is going to get it anyway and don't need to be tempted by a demo.

I really enjoyed the first one and I'm pretty excited about the sequel. That video is badass, reminds me of SotC.

Just because you preorder it doesn't mean you have to buy the game. You could put 5 bucks down to get the disc and then a couple days later either get your money back or put it on another game with a tasty gift as well.

You people make it sound like it's the end of the world that you have to do something extra to get a demo. It's not like you have to buy Crackdown for the Halo 3 beta...oh wait.

Oh boy. Big bosses you hit and hit and hit and hit and hit... and then sidestep and throw a switch to kill them. Great... Hope this is more exciting than the first game. Man I was let down.

The promise of a larger number of epic setpieces than the first game might actually make up for the shallow combat this time around.
    Let's see.

I hope that it won't use as much of the button press sequences as shown in the demo. Bleh. I hated that about the first GoW.

    IGN is god-awful.

I wish people would stop reading their reviews.

    They are awful.

I'll give you an example. Here's an excerpt from their Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel (Nintendo DS) review:
    IGN wrote:
Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel Review

How to shamelessly cash in on fanboys.

    by Jack DeVries

February 13, 2007 - Sometimes it seems that game publishers and developers think the consumer is an idiot. That if they churn out some crappy title and slap a license on it, people will snatch it up. Their greedy eyes have focused on Inuyasha, a staple of the Adult Swim anime lineup. During the holiday season, bad games can get by on having a popular license attached to it, and people won't see until it's too late. Fortunately, Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel was released after, and it's easy to see that the game Art Co. and Frontier Groove developed a game that bastardizes the series worse than the FCC did with the American version edits.

The first mistake the developers made is that players don't even start off as Inuyasha. Instead, a new character named Janis is introduced. Janis is an American schoolgirl that becomes entangled with Inuyasha, Kagome et al when she falls into a well and gets transported to the feudal era. In fact the story focuses on Janis almost entirely. It really should be called Janis: Secret of the Divine Jewel - Featuring Inuyasha. Janis isn't a bad character, and the story is halfway decent, but that doesn't matter since players don't get to really ever enjoy the story. The annoyances within the game are too much for even the most diehard Inuyasha fan to bear.

Does that sound professional to you? It sounds like some jackass in his mother's basement punching away at his computer keyboard. It also sounds like they don't even have editors. They have awful writers with retarded opinions.

I hardly EVER read their reviews, but I occasionally click through while I'm writing one of mine just because their score is often so very different from the one I want to give a game, I want to see if I perhaps missed some glaring flaw.

3/5 of the time, their reviews are trash, like the above, 1/5 of the time it's less trashy, but still poorly written, and the other 1/5 of their reviews are actually passably good, but 20% being such a poor figure, I think it's safe to avoid IGN.

Gamespot is awful too, but IGN really represents the very worst of video game journalism. They are controversy mongerers and really have nothing beneficial to offer gamers.

    Also, their site is fugly.

As you can tell, I hate IGN.

That is some really awful boxart. It looks like someone who just started doing digital painting tried to make a really epic and atmospheric picture, and ended up making everything look like poorly sculpted clay.

The game is going to be fantastic though.

They're a bearable site for news, where the opinion of the people writing becomes much less relevant.
