Call your GameStop, YMMV but they've done it for me before

But they very well might make you wait until all the MW3 customers have gotten their game, and...that could take a while

I saw one of the GameStop dudes at the gym today and he said he was scheduled to work until 4 AM, which sounds...unreasonable.

Since we have a Metal Gear thread now

I'd like to take this time to bitch about Revolver Ocelot

One of my favorite characters in 1 and 3, but seeing what became of him in 2 and 4 with his stupid miming of Liquid...goddamn. They completely ruined one of my favorite characters so quickly with all that stuff.

No matter what he does, he's still fucking people over though. So he's hardly ruined.

I mean the dude admitted he makes one game at a time, and doesn't think about future entries

This is personified in Revolver Ocelot

In MGS2 it is all WOAH WHAT LIQUID? I LIVE ON THROUGH THIS ARM WHAT IN THE FUCK?

Then in MGS3 they really give some huge hints that Revolver is the son of the Sorrow, who can communicate with dead soldiers and then you think "OH! He has these latent abilities from his dad and had become possessed! Interesting!"

    But Nope

In MGS4 he was like "Haha no but really I am just pretending. Never mind I did a picture perfect Liquid Snake voice a few years ago. Just ignore that part."

I also would have loved it if they took the time to insert the two missing scenes from MGS2.
the playable escape from the Tanker sequence (I believe the reason they took it out was because people couldn't figure out how to escape due to the fixed camera angles; ironically, we finally got something similar this year courtesy of Uncharted 3.

The destruction of New York once Arsenal Gear crashes into the harbor. This was taken out due to 9/11, but I always wonder if it actually went beyond the concept phase and was, indeed, a finished cutscene
Last I remember, they cut the Tanker part because they just didn't find it very fun. Pity, because it looked awesome. But seeing as they changed the ending cutscene to explain how Snake got out, it wouldn't really make too much sense.

The New York part on the other hand, I completely agree on. It really sucks that they couldn't fix that part up because the changes really did make a huge difference.

Oh and I'm pretty sure MGS3 is running at 60fps.
Japan didn't have Transfarring in the collection because Peace Walker wasn't included. Peace Walker itself got Transfarring. Since we get PW in the Collection, we get transfarring too..... I think?

Shoot, now lemme go look this up to make sure.

edit: Yeah, there's mention on their Facebook page about transfarring Peace Walker, so I guess it's in.
Apparently the PS3/Vita Transfarring is all handled on the Vita versions end, so it'll probably just be a menu option.

Ocelot was possessed in MGS2. In 4, he replaced Liquid's arm with the robot arm to break the possession, and started just imitating Liquid to keep the illusion going. It's fucking ridiculous, but it's internally consistent.

Yeah, this is the version I remember. By the time MGS4 rolls around, he's actually figured out why the possessions happened (Sorrow's his daddy), so he can stop it happening again but he plays along with it to achieve his goals.

I thought it went deeper (read "stupider") than that. Shall I use spoiler text for a 10-year-old series? Why not.
MGS2: Ocelot does get possessed. "Oh, shit," Ocelot says. "That's fucked up. I don't want that to happen, no telling what he'd do."
Ocelot discovers what Liquid's plan is: to kill all the Patriots. "Now there's a plan I can get behind," says Ocelot, "but I still don't like this whole possession thing. Still, Liquid's crazy enough to make it work."

Solution: Ocelot has his Liquid arm lopped off and replaced by a cybernetic arm, then has himself hypnotized to think Liquid's possessing him. So he's not really Liquid, he's Ocelot acting like what he thinks Liquid would act like if he were possessing Ocelot.

Good God, that hurt just to type out.

Sure. But since you can already play MGS1 on the PS3 and PSP, that might be part of this hypothetical person's plan. A thread about a new collection of games that isn't even out yet shouldn't have unmarked spoilers for those games.

As a side note, though, I'm not sure there's anything you can do that will help you to understand what the fuck is happening in MGS2.

Fair point. There should be spoilers for all the games. But some poor bastards like me are getting the XBOX HD collection, so no MGS1 for us.

I remember finishing MGS2....I had to go straight to wikipedia to find out what just happened.

Wouldn't the arm possessing you possess you so that you wouldn't be capable of forming the thought to break the possession by replacing the possessing arm? Guys what the fuck is going on in the video game world. I had almost NO backlog a month ago. Sales galore, plus insane releases and now suddenly I'm sitting on:
    Condemned: Criminal Origins (0% done)
Dead To Rights: Retribution (65% done)
    Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (90% done)
Shadows of the Damned (0% done)
Assassins Creed Brotherhood: The DaVinci Dissapearance (0% done, need to complete before 11/15)
    Assassins Creed Revelations (11/15)
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (11/15)

and I neeeeed this. I can not, in any fathomable way, justify purchasing it. But MGS1 was the reason I got a PSX, and I went and got bleem!cast for my Dreamcast to play the shit out of it again when it came out. I didnt get a PS2 until way, way late, but MGS2 was more than likely the game that spent the most time in my oXBox. I 100% it. I loved the shit out of it, every second.

You and me, Vow. When it comes to MGS2 - we're like this.

That being said - I have never played any MGS beyond 2. Never even seen 3. I have no idea what a Peace Walker even is (should I read a wiki about MGS4 before playing Peace Walker?). I need this collection, but honestly we're looking at like a 100 hour investment once I get it, so it looks like I'll be having to hate myself while I hold off for awhile. And hopefully I can snag it for like $15 by the time I'm done with all the above...

Haha yup. My god the game becomes a grindfest. I have one Ultimate level left and the end. Also Shadows of the Damned came from the Gamefly sale too. I forgot I even HAVE Darksiders which belongs on that list from a glyde sale too. The good thing was with the exception of the games coming on 11/15, Shadows of the Damned was $14.99 and everything else was under $9.99.

I don't have a PS3, so I doubt I'll be able to play MGS4. How dependant is understanding it to Peace Walker? If there's nothing I need to know, i'll just wait in hopes that I'll get it someday, like I did with MGS3 (and its finally paying off!)

This was my impression too. I thought that even in MGS2 it was the effect of "Drugs and Self-Hypnosis", or whatever. I have to admit, I was somewhat disappointed in that twist, when it was revealed. For all the shit that the MGS series takes about being damned batshit crazy, I rather enjoy the over the top WHAT I get out of the plot every now and again.

Also, my Amazon order just shipped. And shipping is going to take WAY longer than the first estimate. Now it's getting here on the 17th. If I were completely distracted with a bevy of other games, I might be upset.

Okay, this is directly from the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database (the PS3 one, not an online Wiki):
Liquid Ocelot's personality was actually nothing more than the manmade product of Revolver Ocelot's own drug use and autosuggestion.

Revolver Ocelot played the part of Liquid Ocelot in order to awaken Big Boss, who had been kept in a comatose state by the Patriots' AI collective, to find the whereabouts of Zero. He posed as a Liquid Snake doppelganger in order to hide those intentions from the core AI, JD.

Once he had destroyed JD from the inside, his mission as Liquid Ocelot was over. When his life was subsequently claimed by FOXDIE, he died as Revolver Ocelot himself.

Note that this information is only available in the database after unlocking it through playing the game. The 'Surface' information the database provides claims that the surgical replacement of the Liquid arm with a prosthetic 'restored his psyche'. But the 'deeper' info quoted above says it was all an act.
