First playthrough, I didn't kill very many mans, so it wasn't very populated with ghosts. Second playthrough, everyone got throat slashed or neck broked. That river was packed to the brim with ghosts spraying blood from their necks going "grrrrrglblllrrrggg" and broke neck ghosts "Oh god...Why?!"

I want to be excited for this, but why oh why is Twin Snakes not included? That's on par, maybe even better than Sons of Liberty's graphics, it meets the criteria, non?
Oh brilliant

I'm really debating buying this. I have MGS3 for PS2 that I bought out of the clearance bin, but never played. And I'm definitely interested in Peace Walker. Is it worth the $50? (I'm sure it will go on sale at some point, too.)
And damnit, I will never get a PS3, and pray that MGS4 will be released on some other consoles.

From what I understand, this HD collection sets the new standard for HD re-releases. I'd say go for it. You can get it from Amazon for $40! Unless that was just a preorder thing.

Not buying a PS3 is pretty much locking yourself off from some really awesome stuff:
Uncharted - This series is worth the cost of a PS3 I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
Killzone
inFamous
LittleBigPlanet
Heavy Rain
God of War
MAG
SOCOM
Resistance
Last Guardian
Warhawk/Starhawk
All the PixelJunk stuff
Kind of ridiculous that Konami is releasing "collections" of two of their premiere franchises, and not including the first games of either series. I guess, as an Xbox owner, I'm happy to be getting the games that haven't before been on the platform, but I'm going to be waiting for these to get cheap first.
I love MGS dearly, but the first game looks like ass in comparison to modern ones (at the time though they were pretty fricken sweet). Honestly, if they wanted to make decent money, a remake would be the way to go.

So I read around and I guess people hate Twin Snakes cause of the crazy ninja shit.
Did they miss all the crazy ninja shit in MGS2 and 4? Cause there was some crazy ninja shit there too.

It's heartwarming to see the number of people out there basically saying 'wow this Peace Walker thing is pretty rad!'
They really shot themselves in the foot releasing it on the PSP.

I've got to agree with this point. Even as someone who owns the damn game on the PSP, my motivation to play it when I'm not on a plane or stuck in an airport is nill when I think about having to wrestle with the controls. The PSP just wasn't very well suited to a proper MGS game, in my opinion. Some of the boss battles (at least the ones I played up through - still haven't finished) I found to be very difficult to execute with no-alert status, because the controls were kind of wonky.
One nice side-effect of being on the PSP, though, is that all of the extremely talkie bits of the game are handled as optional audio segments. If you're into the backstory, you can settle in and listen. If you're just looking to game, you can skip them over. Personally, I have to listen to every tape as they become available. However, I know some folks appreciate the lack of 30-minute codec conversations.

I never played Peace Walker on PSP, but if it handled anything like Portable Ops, it definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the game.

It's a big step up from the mess that was Portable Ops, but it's still sub-optimal in my opinion. Sneaking is something that can be managed alright if you put your mind to it and remember that you can't move while prone. But the action-y bits get a little hard to keep up with, particularly when you're fighting the camera.
What I will say, though, is thank god you don't have to carry captured units back to a van. Fulton Recovery is the best damn part of that game.
Was at wal mart yesterday and thought about picking this up. Did not see a single copy for xbox or ps3. Not even a place holder where the game was and sold out. Of course they had about 50 copies of MW3 in 3 different cases though.

Yeah. That was annoying. Am I wrong also that you can't put your back to a wall and move along it? I can't do it for some reason...

You're right. Basically you can 'stick' to walls, but you can't sidle along them at all. Considering that's been a mainstay mechanic of the series since MGS1, it feels awkward. I'm guessing it's because you have to hold a d-pad button to press up against the wall, and thus release the analog nub on the PSP... but it still feels weird.

When I was into it, I was really digging it. Hopefully being able to play it on my PS3 will rekindle my interest! And provide more co-op opportunities.
For those of you who are seasoned Peace Walkers, though, I have to ask about base management. I really was struggling with keeping things maintained properly. It seemed like, even when I spent ages farming new soldiers, I couldn't keep my mess hall and medical team operating at an appropriate capacity. Everything seemed to hover around the 100% mark for food, and people in sickbay were slated for recovery after 45 turns, or some other ridiculous number.
And that's not counting Amanda.
Anyone have an tips for efficiently managing mother base?
It's pretty much just finding guys with higher skills to put in those roles; it may take further into the game or a higher Hero level (if I recall) to recruit better troops, but once you have a bunch of guys that are specifically skilled in the category you want, it becomes a non-issue.
On my old save, for example, most of my mess hall guys were High B rank or higher in cooking, and I had food percentages in the 400% range.
Edit: yeah, thinking about it more, I'm pretty sure your hero level plays a big role in it. I'll have to look that up later to verify.

Ah, okay. I probably made a mistake wasting so much time farming mediocre-to-low level guys in the early game, then. I kept revisiting levels and capturing as many prisoners and soldiers as I could, only to find that the mess hall percentage had dropped by roughly as much as I could restore it with new recruits. Sounds like I should just power through the next few story bits, beef up Snake's heroism, and worry about the management once I gain access to higher-level recruits.
Not only does The Pain fire bees at you, he fires them from a gun made of bees
and it is awesome.
If anyone has played any of the MGS games, but hasn't read Hiimdaisy's MGS comics, go read them all right this second. I've never laughed so hard in all my life.

Though one of the early levels does have a really, really good spy that you can get later on.
The Rescue Chico level, there's a sniper doing target practice on a cliff; you can't reach him normally to Fulton him, but the Carl Gustav Fulton will be able to snag him. Keep farming him and you can max out your Spying levels easily.
Unlocked recruitment today on the way to work, spent time scanning AP points going through the business district. Grabbed about 30 recruits, some of 'em were not too shabby. Definitely need to get my hero up though, and start recruiting a higher class of dudes.

That is the exact level that I farmed over and over again. I didn't know you could grab that sniper at all! I'm not yet to the point where I have developed the Carl Gustav Fulton, though. Thanks for tip! I'll be making a return trip there for sure.

Actually, that one isn't something you need a high research level, you have to do an Extra Ops for it. Lemme see..... 98, the interweb says.
Is it recommended to play Portable Ops before Peace Walker? Or does PW pretty much ignore PO's existence? (I ask because I think I kept reading over and over that PW was a sequel to MGS3 with no mention of PO at all in previews.)
If you can play PO I'd recommend it, but if that requires buying a PSP or anything, meh, just quickly read the wiki or something. I enjoyed it, and a few things happen in the story, but don't put too much effort into playing it.
Cool. It was actually one of the games I bought my PSP for. By time I picked up the system, the game was already out of print and replaced by PO+... which I made the mistake of buying. Whoops. I lost interest after that.
i think it's that snake started doing crazy ninja shit, which he had never done before. they artificially added more ninja shit!
I maintain that the crazy voodoo shit in MGS3 was weirder than Snake's crazy ninja shit in Twin Snakes.
C'mon. A guy jumping backwards and throwing a grenade at debris vs. a dude firing fucking bees at you.
how about the missile scene
honestly the only reason i don't like the crazy ninja shit is because i wanted a game with the same choreography and voice acting as the original
plus it was all just a bit too john woo for my tastes
As bloody ridiculous as the missile bit was, I don't consider it to be the most crazy/stupid bit in the game.
What really got me was near the end, Snake is listening to Liquid and Ocelot, and he's up against the door frame. Then out of nowhere, somersaults up and over the entire door frame.
That was the scene that pretty much killed it for me.
